Facebook and Cambridge Analytica are already dealing with numerous private lawsuits over non-consensual data sharing, but they now have to grapple with a state-level lawsuit. Illinois' Cook County has filed a lawsuit against both companies accusing them of violating the state's Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Cambridge Analytica allegedly broke the law by misrepresenting its "thisisyourdigitallife" app as an academic research tool when it was really meant to harvest personal data against Facebook's agreements. Facebook, meanwhile, was accused of falsely promising to protect user data and doing nothing to stop Cambridge Analytica for years after learning of its behavior.

    Crazy, you say. And, Zuck isn't crazy? Politicians aren't crazy? And, which activist groups aren't crazy? Tell us more about the sane, rational decisions made in the corporate world, especially when the corporate world intersects with politics. CRAZZZEEEEE!!! LMAO!

    Crazy because the AC was ranting about the "leftist conspiracy" when this whole debacle was started by a lawsuit from the UK. AC was just spewing nutso partisan narrative as if this wouldn't have been news unless some shadowy leftist cabal wasn't upset at FB. Zuck's only error was getting caught.

    There is plenty of crazy in the corporate / political worlds, but that doesn't mean that the world is controlled solely by "Leftists" keeping poor "Righty" down. Muh uppreshun and all that.

        This was all started in the UK, this is now just continuing news about a similar suit finally being brought in the US. Still zero signs of Lefts Cabals, and as usual your point has been concatenated with less.

          The lawsuit itself is suspicious. A county (I guess, people will have to agree to disagree on whether Cook County is a "Leftist" stronghold or not) sued without having either standing or damages. The private lawsuits make sense even when they do the same (greed is a great excuse for bad lawsuits). But why would a dinky county be involved? Someone's showboating.

            States suing businesses over fraud and consumer protection is NOT a new thing. How this surprises you and makes you suspicious is in itself suspicious.

      Leftist conspiracy? Started by Steve Bannon and funded by the Mercers? Cambridge Analytica is an alt-right agit-prop operation, designed to get the UK out of the EU, and to keep Mitt Romney from running for USA President again. I suspect there actually is Russian collision.
