Facebook should adopt stringent EU data protection rules as a global "baseline" for all of the social network's services, consumer activists say in an open letter that contends the rules will help ensure the company is accountable and transparent.

The Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue, a coalition of US and European consumer groups, called on CEO Mark Zuckerberg to adopt the EU's General Data Protection Regulation to govern his company's platform. The sweeping regulation, known by the abbreviation GDPR, gives Europeans more control over their personal data and compels companies to notify consumers of data breaches within 72 hours. It also expands the types of information that are considered personal data.

"The GDPR provides a solid foundation for data protection, establishing clear responsibilities for companies that collect personal data and clear rights for users whose data is gathered," TCD said in its letter. "These are protections that all users should be entitled to no matter where they are located."

[...] In its letter, the Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue suggested the GDPR represents the gold standard in data protection, telling Zuckerberg that "there is simply no reason for your company to provide less than the best legal standards currently available to protect the privacy of Facebook users."

It urged Zuckerberg to express his commitment "to global compliance with GDPR and provide specific details on how the company plans to implement these changes" in his Congressional testimony.

[...] Facebook declined to comment for this story, but executives have previously commented on GDPR and similar subjects.

This is the guy who wrote: People just submitted it. I don't know why. They "trust me". Dumb fucks. [wikiquote.org]

He's a classic sociopath. He may pretend otherwise, because he has to, but one should not forget what he really is.

The problem is not that Zuckerberg is a sociopath.

The problem is that most people are "Dumb fucks".

Trying to take down a sociopath here and a sociopath there seems like a losing strategy.

Well, it seems inevitable that sociopaths will rise to positions of power. It seems like an evolutionary advantage, one I wish I had.

As a practical matter, that means that non-sociopaths simply need to learn how to negotiate with sociopaths. Fortunately, this is a skill that can be learned.

Always remember that the sociopath's goal is not to provide something mutually beneficial. The sociopath's goal is control; he wants to control you. You, personally. That is what he wants to control. He is not negotiating in good faith. He is negotiating for your soul. All that is required is to say "no." Then he'll start saying things like "it'll be big!!$$$!" or "you're missing out!!" He uses your own ego and greed against you.

Therefore, all that is required is to let go of ego. Once one begins to approach the problem from the perspective of impermanence, seeing attachment to the material world as the source of all the sociopath's power, then one removes oneself from the influence of sociopaths. A sociopath has nothing to offer somebody who sees no value in the impermanent material world and has no ego to appeal to.

I used to be flabbergasted by how many seemingly stupid people there are in the world.

Then, at one point, I realized that, BY DEFINITION, half of all people are of below average intelligence, and it seemed to make sense to me.

It now occurs to me that the problem is not that half are below average, but that the STANDARD DEVIATION is so high.

Note that the standard deviation of the IQ distribution is more or less the width of the distribution of IQ among the whole population.

It's not the standard deviation of error in the test's measurement. That's much smaller.

The psychologist who tested my IQ in eighth grade sadly informed me that two people with a difference of 20 points are completely unable to relate to each other.

Hilary Clinton, say what you will about her, is very intelligent - and so unable to relate to Trump's base.

I've spend my whole adult life learning how to relate to anybody. "Active Listening" helps quite a lot. A common complaint that many people make about other people is that they never listen.

If 2 people are separated by 20 IQ points, then the one with the lower IQ will have trouble relating to the one with the higher IQ. However, the one with the higher IQ could, if desired, relate to the one with the lower IQ.

Trump turned himself into a billionaire, and has been successful in multiple domains of enterprise; he made a large power base of lower-income, lower-educated proles.

Hillary is a bureaucrat, and the wife of a former President. She was made the candidate by higher-income, higher-educated elites.

          You figure it out.
