Americans die of heart or cardiovascular disease at an alarming rate. In fact, heart attacks, strokes and related diseases will kill an estimated 610,000 Americans this year alone. Some medications help, but to better tackle this problem, researchers need to know exactly how the heart and blood vessels stay healthy in the first place.

Now, scientists at The Scripps Research Institute have identified a protein, called GPR68, that senses blood flow and tells small blood vessels called arterioles when to dilate. The researchers believe medications that activate GPR68 could one day be useful to treat medical conditions, including ischemic stroke.

"It has been known for decades that blood vessels sense changes in blood flow rate, and this information is crucial in regulating blood vessel dilation and controlling vascular tone," says Ardem Patapoutian, PhD, Scripps Research professor, Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator and senior author of the study published today in the journal Cell.

That is a medium-sized conga line of non-sequiturs, dancing to the beat of I know not what nightmarish drum in the recesses of your mind. You're doing it on purpose too. Do you *want* to end up with your karma in the septic tank? It would be quicker for you to just go on IRC and ask to be banned. Nevertheless, here's another well-earned Troll mod.

I explained this to someone else, quite some time ago. I'll take the time to explain it to you.

You are throwing a temper tantrum, so you use your down mods on me. On any given day, you can bring me all the way down to 46 - GASP!. If you, personally, bring me down to 45 karma points, it is YOU who will get mod-banned. You know this, I know this, all long-time members know this. So, you can drag me all the way down to 46 karma points.

Other people come online, they don't see my karma level, only I see my karma level. All that other people see are my posts. Some people might disagree with my post, so I might get a down mod or two. Other people agree with my post, so I get an upmod or two. And, as the day wears on, I can see my karma rising back up to 50. MOST PEOPLE just don't give a fuck about most of my posts. That is, normal people don't follow me around, either trying to raise me up, or pull me down. "Normal people". What a concept, huh? One which you probably have trouble with. But, yes, there are normal people, and most normal people just don't give very much of a damn about me - OR about you!

If you have made it your mission to drag my karma down to "negative leventy billion" or so - you might as well give up. You can't do it. Take Ethanol for an example. The man has spent years being intentionally obnoxious, and he STILL hasn't been banned. That guy just doesn't have the talent to really piss people off. As much as he works at pissing libbies off, as much as his views chafe conservatives, as objectionable as many of his views are to moderates, he still hasn't been banned. Oh - a temporary ban from posting anonymously, because some douche or another stacked up some spam mods against him. You want to be careful of that, 'Zumi. Those spam mods can backfire on a person.

So, little girlie girl - do you really want to engage in a moderation war? How silly is that? You can't win it. You'll notice that I'm not even firing back in that silly war.

I won the last little war we had. All according to "chick rules", I beat you fairly and squarely.

But, you do realize, when you declare a war, you really, really, really ought to declare that war openly. And, at the same time, you should state the rules.

I have made allowances for you, because you claim to be broken. And, more allowances, because you are only 92nd percentile on your cherished intelligence tests. And, yet more allowances, because you're a chick. But, if you want to declare war, you need to do so, openly, clearly, for all to see. And, TELL US THE FUCKING RULES.

If you have the decency to do so, I'll maul you again. If you don't have the decency to do that, I'll probably maul you anyway.

(This is the point at which you claim that I have never beaten you, right? You're so predictable . . . )

If you keep trolling and being an asshole, you will keep getting Troll mods. This is trolling and being an asshole. It's not my "mission" to downmod you into oblivion; I'd rather spend the points on +1 Insightful. But you're being an insufferable sack of shit, so what other option do I have?

You never bloody learn, do you...? I can keep it up (hurrr) longer than you (hurr!) old man. There are better things to spend my mod points on, but since you asked...

Runaway, Runaway! You know that thing we talked about? You're doing it again. Drop the keyboard and walk away. You are embarrassing yourself and the entire Soylenilship! Oh, and you forgot to add "Christian" to your list.
