Mentioned previously on SN, Amazon has started direct-to-car deliveries:

Amazon is expanding its in-home delivery service called Key to include deliveries to trunks and back seats of cars. The service is available only to Amazon Prime members in 37 cities who have a 2015 or newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac or Volvo with an active OnStar or Volvo On Call account.

Essentially, these are already connected cars that can be remotely unlocked — in this case for package delivery, which Amazon promises within a four-hour window. The shopper has to confirm that they've parked within range of the delivery location — in a publicly accessible area — and can track the progress through the Amazon Key app.

That depends. I drive a beat-up old rustbucket that sure as fuck doesn't have any OnStar or equivalent. For that purpose too. As I'm heading to South America in the near future, I'm entirely unmotivated to have better transportation. I think they're are maybe more of my type of vehicle, than an OnStar vehicle. So this is a technology only available for the rich few, which makes sense why they're targeted.

Having gone back to visit relatives and friends, I've never been yelled at so loud about dealing with their fancy new vehicles. Don't slam the door has always been a popular refrain, but now it's, "DON'T SHUT THE TRUNK GODDAMMIT!!".

The trunks shut themselves now. Even have nice little buttons to do it. Fuck, they even open themselves now too. I can see one of my relatives getting this and putting a note up inside the trunk, "DON'T SHUT THE FUCKING TRUNK! USE THE BUTTON -> ". Now thinking about it, I can see a near future where your car drives to WalMart, opens the trunk, receives the packages, and then drives home to you.

I don't even have cruise control and need to be grateful for niceties like power steering :)
