The Pineapple Fund has done what it set out to do and is concluding its activities. Going out in style, he/she/it/they continue to remain more or less anonymous.

In December 2017, the Pineapple Fund was set up by an unknown individual with the intention of giving cryptocurrency donations around the world. It has also been claimed to be among the 250 largest holders of Bitcoin in the world. Known simply as 'Pine', the anonymous person announced via Reddit last year that they were setting up the Pineapple Fund to donate 5,057 BTC, worth about $86 million at the time, to charitable causes.

I'd have to disagree. For one thing, there is very, very little evidence to support the idea that we need more than micrograms of iodine and I've seen studies linking high levels of iodine such as in table salt to all manner of ill health effects including autism spectrum disorder and even autoimmune disorders. Iodine is bad in excess and a friggin banana gives you weeks worth of it. You don't need it in table salt and it alters the flavor so everything salted with it tastes like metal. I challenge you. Use only sea salt for a month, then replace it with iodized table salt. See if your family doesn't ask about the metallic taste.

A far, far better use for this money would be water capture and desalinazation in order to turn currently unairable land into productive crop land. You'd solve the crisis of clean drinking water for those most affected and you'd be helping them feed themselves as well.
Another good use would be to fund development in impoverished nations so the locals can stop being raped by their local warlords every time the humanitarian missions come by and drop food packets.

What if there's no iodine in the soil where the banana trees grow?

Then they were planted off world and should be looked at with suspicion. Seriously you only need 100 - 200 micrograms, there's 1000 micrograms in a milligram. You could probably get a weeks worth by eating, anything grown in any soil anywhere.

A single sheet of seaweed gives 1000x the %DV

That article is pretty balanced, notice that there is a chart showing that for a person 19+ the tolerable upper intake levels are 1100 mcg. Meaning eat a single sheet of seaweed as an adult and you've hit the limit beyond which adverse health effects are likely. A 2 - 5 year old would hit this limit with a couple orders of french fries.

My point is that adding extra iodine to human diets is unlikely to help and more likely to cause harm than good. We need only a very, very narrow range.

Keep your kids away from your One-A-Day Plus Iron!

I flunked a Hematocrit test [warplife.com] so Bloodworks Northwest advised me to get more iron in my diet.

I've found that difficult to accomplish with the one grocery store that's within walking distance.

When I get my Real Soon Now paycheck I'll take the bus to a better grocery store so I can get some dark, leafy greens, mollasses and raisins.

Eat Brassicas like brocolli and cauliflower and cabbage. I had to reduce my intake as my Iron levels where too high.

Then you need to extend your reading a little outside the 'everything you cannot prove doesn't cause austism causes austism' kook circles I am afraid.

Your need for Iodine is highly variable, and depending on your diet it is possible to receive basically zero in many areas of the world.
Your body is very good at handling an excess of Iodine, in fact if it was not then many area of asia would suffer from huge medical issues, which they do not.

Perhaps you should go and research the impact of iodisation of salt (dont to fight a very real disease at the time) on average IQ..

And no, you dont have a god damn clue about what you are talking about with salt. The levels present are suitably low, and the effect on flavour would be orders of magnitude below the levels of impurities you find in just about any of the 'natural' salts people appear to love.

Your other 'uses' are just meaningless handwaving with no actual real application, just 'wouldnt it be nice'isms.
Iodine has a specific scientifically measured positive effect for certain areas (due to it being missing from local food chains) for a very low investment.
It has a long term positive effect on the basic intelligence of children growing up in these regions.
    And it is almost free.
    What is not to like?
