Meet Tarek Loubani, the Canadian Doctor Shot by Israeli Forces Monday While Treating Gaza's Wounded (Transcript)
As Palestinians vow to continue protesting against the Israeli occupation of Gaza, we speak to a Canadian doctor who was shot by Israeli forces in both legs Monday [May 14] while he was helping injured Palestinians. Israeli forces shot dead at least 61 unarmed Palestinian protesters taking part in the Great March of Return Monday, including one doctor. Canada, Britain, Germany, Ireland, and Belgium have called for an investigation into the killings. The United Nations Human Rights Council has announced that it will hold a special session Friday to discuss escalating violence in Gaza. We speak with Dr. Tarek Loubani, an emergency room medical doctor, one of 19 medical personnel shot in Gaza on Monday.

He notes that the doctor who treated him was subsequently shot, resulting in his death--this, while he was wearing high-visibility clothing to denote his first-responder status.

This is an odd way of looking at it. Because the Israeli's have been effective in stopping anyone from crossing the border, all the deaths have been on one side. Some, not all, of the people trying to cross have had weapons. So, if the Israeli forces were not 100% effective in stopping the fence from being breached, there could be deaths on their side. Your argument is saying you can only defend yourself once you die or someone on your side dies. That does not make sense.
Just because all the negative consequences have been one sided does not mean that the side experiencing the consequences is in the right.

This isn't an odd way of looking at it at all. There are dozens of Palestinians dead, no Israelis are dead. Last I heard, there weren't even any Israelis injured in this.
It's pretty clear that the Israelis were shooting people from a safe distance. This isn't them doing an effective job, this is a case of them murdering people from a distance on the off chance that they might cross the border a few hundred feet away.
But, that's the kind of thing that we've all come to expect from the Israelis. A thoroughly despicable defense program and all the people involved need to be brought up on war crimes charges the way we did with the Nazis. The Nazis, another group that dehumanized and exterminated a group of people.

An image that helps make the point of how foolish the whole "getting out" thing is:
There's a fence [archive.li] that is actually LAYERS of fence, covered in barbed wire and electrified,[1] running the length of the prison camp that their oppressors have established for the Palestinians in occupied Gaza.
As you note, the Israelis were shooting THROUGH the fence at people who weren't able to breech the dividing line, even if that was their goal.
[1] The Israelis learned all the tricks from their Nazi oppressors and, rather than consigning those to a museum of things NOT to do, are instead using the techniques themselves.
Just monstrous.

The fence is inside the border, on the Israeli side.
So the IDF has two choices: Shoot the few people who approach the fence, already having crossed the border; or allow them to breach the fence, and then shoot 10 times as many people as they flood through the hole in the fence to go murder Israeli civilians in their sleep.
By the way, Hamas is paying Palestinians to get shot: $200 for a leg wound, and $3,000 to the family of anyone shot dead. And 53 of 62 dead Palestinians were known terrorists.
But those evil Israelis, massacring those innocent Palestinians!

53 of 62 dead Palestinians were known terrorists. So according to you, they should let these "unarmed" terrorists breach the border.
And these "unarmed" Palestinians are burning tires and flying molotov-cocktail kites over the border.
By your logic, I can walk up to you, swing my fist as hard as I can 1 mm from your face, and you can't complain, because I'm unarmed and haven't actually harmed you yet.
Why are you defending a terrorist organization? Why are you defending a group that pays civilians to commit suicide-by-cop for the cameras to record propaganda of? Why are you defending a group that literally throws away the lives of their own people, hides their weapons in hospitals and schools, and forces innocent people to stay in areas the IDF has warned in advance it will bomb?

Even if your crackpot theories are true it still doesn't excuse shooting unarmed people and medical personnel. You're just too worked up in your rabid hatred to see the crime here.

I don't doubt there is some truth to those paid tactics which make the Israelis or whoever look bad, but if you really wanna go that route you'll have to own up to the shit every western nation has done and is complicit in. At the end of the day no matter how much the protesters were getting paid,shooting them when they weren't trying to beach the fence is a war crime. Get that through your thick hateful/cowardly skull.

False. It cannot be a war crime because 1) they are not at war, and 2) the people shot had crossed the border, which the IDF has a sovereign right to defend. It doesn't matter whether they are armed; they have violated the border, and they were warned not to do so. They did so knowingly and purposefully, for the purpose of being shot, to put on a show for cameras, and to get money. You should be criticizing Hamas for paying their people to commit suicide.

False. A doctor examined the child (who brings a child into an area saturated with tear gas anyway? Oh, Hamas...) and said the child died of a pre-existing medical condition.

The reporting is a lie, as evidenced by the "60 innocent people" who were killed, of which 50 were known terrorists, and the "8 month old that was killed by tear gas" that actually died of a pre-existing condition, and the "unarmed" people who are actually throwing rocks, lighting tires on fire, and flying kites with molotov cocktails over the border, who are approaching a fence that's well inside Israeli territory, against explicit warnings by the IDF, and who are in fact being paid to get themselves shot for the cameras.

There are two simple explanations. Pick one.
1. They weren't medics. (Wait, you mean they are being deceptive? You mean they do things like recording video of people being carried on stretchers who, when they think the camera is off, get up and walk away? How could this possibly be?)
2. They were extremely stupid. 25 meters is nothing for a bullet. WTF are they doing 25 meters from people who are intending to get shot?
Come on, put the pieces together, man: Hamas is paying people to run at the fence and get shot, taking video of healthy people carried around on stretchers as if they were dead, and burning tires and kites--and you think that the people wearing hi-vis vests in the middle of all that are legit?
