The Inquirer reports that Huawei has ended the support for bootloaders on its devices. This greatly reduces the utility and desireability of the phones for developers and others keen on customization. It's for our own good, apparently:
"In order to deliver the best user experience and prevent users from experiencing possible issues that could arise from ROM flashing, including system failure, stuttering, worsened battery performance, and the risk of data being compromised, Huawei will cease providing bootloader unlock codes for devices launched after May 25, 2018," the firm burbled.

The Nexus lines were marketed as "pure" Android, but they were a joke because the Android "Open Source" Project has always lagged behind Google's proprietary cut of the software (so much so that, IIRC, the head of the AOSP quit in protest).
Well, this has carried over to the Pixel line by an order of magnitude; AOSP is less useful than Apple's pure Darwin ever was. Even Google's own "Fi" network chokes on any ROM other than Google's, which apparently ships with very secret sauce.
It's all a joke. There's nothing left to program freely anymore except for a few routers (whose companies realize their mistake eventually), and gimmicky "teach your Daughter how to make lights blink" Arduinos.
Get out while you can!
