California's efforts to restrict Elon Musk's flamethrowers go down in flames
A California state bill that would have more heavily regulated the use of flamethrowers has now effectively fizzled out in a legislative committee.
In light of this development, there's nothing to stop Boring Company customers in California from receiving the company's sold-out flamethrowers.
On May 26, the day after the bill died in committee, CEO Elon Musk tweeted:
About to ship. @BoringCompany holding flamethrower pickup parties in a week or so, then deliveries begin. Check https://t.co/WTl3TOTOkt for details.

While this seems like a completely stupid thing overall I did find Elons tweet interesting.
So if the flame is shorter then 3 meters it is ok. Still I'm not sure if I find the idea in general very pleasing, something that shoots flames up to 3 meters away (it could be a lot less). Any data on tank capacity or if you can mix your own napalm and go crazy with it? Or will it be like a small propane canister making this nothing more then a really big lighter that you could possibly light some cigarettes with or mildly char one hotdog?

Just a propane torch with a fancy gun like handle. I'm honestly more afraid of weed burners and roofing torches.

This does not "throw" flames -- it creates a temporary jet of flame like any other propane burner out there. With some manipulation of the igniter and gas valves (release gas then ignite) you could also make a small fireball, but it will have a very short duration and forget about it if there's any wind. What distinguishes a flame thrower from this glorified $50 weed burner, is that a flamethrower uses a gelatinous fuel source that sticks to whatever it hits and continues to burn, something you can't do with propane whether or not the burner comes with a pistol grip.
