California's efforts to restrict Elon Musk's flamethrowers go down in flames
A California state bill that would have more heavily regulated the use of flamethrowers has now effectively fizzled out in a legislative committee.
In light of this development, there's nothing to stop Boring Company customers in California from receiving the company's sold-out flamethrowers.
On May 26, the day after the bill died in committee, CEO Elon Musk tweeted:
About to ship. @BoringCompany holding flamethrower pickup parties in a week or so, then deliveries begin. Check https://t.co/WTl3TOTOkt for details.

Sell flamethrowers that is? Do you have to take drugs to appreciate the humor?

Well, we know from the names of the SpaceX recovery barges that Elon is a fan of Iain Banks, so perhaps he's had a Culture "drug gland" fitted... although if he could make those they'd sell waaay better than flamethrowers...

It's the same kind of childish humor in the line of:
* SpaceX's Big Fucking Rocket
* Tesla Models S, 3, X, and Y
* The name: The Boring Company
It also grabs attention for the Boring Company and given how simple the "flamethrowers" are, he probably made a profit from it.

I'd go with "drunk frat boy" vs. "childish", although Boring Co is not bad. He had to call it something, and that humor involves actual wordplay. I'm beginning to suspect that the name "autopilot" is also one of his jokes.
