Microsoft employee Saeed Noursalehi announced the decision to rename Microsoft's Git Virtual File System (GVFS) due to a conflict with the GNOME Virtual File System (Gvfs) project:
We’ve heard the feedback, so lets use this issue to come up with a new name for this project. As we all know, folks from Microsoft don’t have a rich tradition of picking super awesome names for things. I'm no exception to that pattern, so I was thinking we could all put some sensible suggestions into this issue. I’ll then compile a short list and then we’ll all get to vote on the new name.

I don't know, Microsoft are okay at names. At least they give you a hint at what something does instead of being smug little inside jokes.
Notepad - perfectly good and functional name for a simple text editor
Pluma, Geany, Emacs, Vim, Kate - nothing to do with their function
Paint - let's you paint.
GIMP - uhhh...?
Outlook - could be a calendar? Not the best one, but at least vaguely related to what it does.
Thunderbird - no idea.
Internet Explorer - does exactly what it says.
Firefox - 80's Clint Eastwood movie.
systemd is Roko's Basilisk

What's in a name? Apple, Microsoft, at least JellyBelly makes sense. Marketspeak is for people who like Marketing.
Windows - Lets you see through a wall.
DOS - I guess Uno was taken.
Access - To what?
Excel - lent
Cortana - What's she do?
OneNote - Forged in the darkness to bind them.
XBox - ?? I thought it was for kids. Sounds kind of Kinky.
