Scientists at the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) trained an artificial intelligence algorithm dubbed "Norman" to become a psychopath by only exposing it to macabre Reddit images of gruesome deaths and violence, according to a new study.

Nicknamed Norman after Anthony Perkins' character in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film Psycho, the artificial intelligence was fed only a continuous stream of violent images from various pernicious subreddits before being tested with Rorschach inkblot tests. The imagery detected by Norman produced spooky interpretations of electrocutions and speeding car deaths where a standard AI would only see umbrellas and wedding cakes.

macabre Reddit images of gruesome deaths and violence

This reminds me of the periodic video game panic where some daytime talk show host breathlessly relates that she has a weird as hell uncle who plays a video game where all the weirdo does for 12 hours per day is slash female pedestrians with a knife and we need to ban this "violence against women simulator" but unlike the daytime talk show host or any of her audience I actually have the game and have never participated in any weirdness like that or even thought of doing that, and frankly the story is more about the host's fucked up uncle being fucked up, than it is about the video games she's trying to ban. Yer telling us a lot more about your idea of fun, that you are telling us about the actual video game, I'm saying. Or reddit, in this case.

I suppose you could watch videos of moslems beheading white people 24x7 on reddit, but about 99.999% of my traffic on reddit is still or moving picture of hot inadequately attired attractive women, much like most reddit users AFAIK. Its interesting that reddit is pretty big, so there's subcultures, such that the text users are probably the shittiest most messed up collection of losers I've ever seen (with some exceptions) but the pr0n is actually pretty decent on Reddit, and there's not much overlap in the subcultures. And apparently there exists a subculture on reddit of gore photos, or maybe thats a rule 34 thing, I donno.

I'm just saying, if someone's totally fucked up, all their reddit traffic will be beheading videos, but the beheading videos are just another symptom, not the cause, of all the inkblots looking like decapitated heads and bodies. Most somewhat more normal people's reddit traffic would make the inkblots look like college cheerleaders performing some act of prurient interest.

My guess is this kind of anti-reddit news is hitting the clickbait sites because reddit isn't buying enough advertising, kinda like the toyota unintended acceleration shakedown from a couple years back.

I concluded that most users of reddit have some sort of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. This would just be another data point to support that conclusion.
