Trump orders creation of space-focused U.S. military branch

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said he was ordering the creation of a sixth branch of the military to focus on space, a move critics said could harm the Air Force.

"It is not enough to merely have an American presence in space. We must have American dominance in space," Trump said before a meeting of his National Space Council. "We are going to have the Air Force and we're going to have the 'Space Force.' Separate but equal. It is going to be something," he said later.

The United States is a member of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which bars the stationing of weapons of mass destruction in space and only allows for the use of the moon and other celestial bodies for peaceful purposes.

The idea of a Space Force has been raised before, by Trump and previous administrations, with proponents saying it would make the Pentagon more efficient. It has also faced criticism from senior military officials. Air Force Chief of Staff General David Goldfein told a 2017 congressional hearing that creating a new space branch would "move us in the wrong direction." The Air Force oversees most of the nation's space-related military activity.

The move would require the budgetary approval of the U.S. Congress, which has been divided on the idea.

President Trump orders the creation of new Starship Troopers/Space Marines memes.

We should have a separate "Space" topic on SoylentNews at this point. We are all going to be drafted to fight aliens eventually.

So the john miller makes a post that is on topic and you mod it offtopic, then make an offtopic bitch about it. Sounds like you are the real spammer.

Sulla, I modded you down, again. I don't understand what you are trying to say, and it contributes nothing to the discussion, except that to once again point out that you are a poor conservative being discriminated against for your lack of knowledge and intelligence. Could you give us some corrections?

Azuma is being a hypocrite is the jist of what I was saying. Regardless of how much you hate what they say, the Miller and TRDT accounts are often on topic. Disliking what someone says does not make it off topic. On the specific post in question the Miller account spewed a bunch of gobbligoop and posted a link to something about the event. Seemed clear to me that this is poking fun/insulting the Trump admin for always using subjects people think are interesting to push an issue they want on the forefront.

The Miller post is spam depending on who looks at it. All responses to his post complaining that it is offtopic have clearly been offtopic. Thats Azumas post, mine, and yours my dear Arist.

Who is the spammer? The person making posts that are 30% on topic, or the person who responds to those posts with a 100% offtopic bitch about it.

Oh fuck off. If you don't see why sockpuppetting is a problem maybe you don't belong on a public forum.

I find attempts to restrict or hide speech you disagree with to be far more dangerous than some random asshat. The left keeps claiming Trump and the right are threats to the republic, yet do everything they can to stop people from speaking freely through threat or legislation.

            Citation needed.

And even if I give you that batshit crazy position it is still much preferable to the conservative "censorship" that ruins people's lives a lot more directly.

Citation needed. At least on this site you can look at the insane points of the folks from the left and the right. You notice that one side never tries to censor the other and goes out of their way to hide as much as they can.

But the other side, the "not all that bright side", does try to fill the conversation with total bullshit, dis-information and fake news and alternative facts. So shutting them up is not censorship, it is just maintaining "The Fairness Doctrine" that the Traitor Ronald Reagan abolished, in order to allow Sean Hannity to be the ass that he is. Sulla, you have been had, bamboozled, hornswaggled, lied to and used! Snap out of it, if you are capable of being an American, faithful to the founding principles, and not an addled Alaskan. I appreciate how honest you are with bringing up one of the biggest attacks on free speech in the last century. Leftist talk http://www.quadstick.comamericans [www.quadstick.comamericans] to listen to their programming? Demand a law to continue airing programs nobody likes.

We need fairness doctrine in everything. Now that fossil fuels are finally dying out we need to have a fairness doctrine that ensures people can still buy ineffecient and unwanted gas motor versions of vehicles! We need a fairness doctrine that protects big aggriculture so stores are forced to stock foods sprayed with DDT.
