From Raw Story

The National Park Service has approved an application for a year anniversary commemoration of Charlottesville's violent white supremacist rally to be held in Washington, DC.

DC's WUSA9 reported that NPS approved the application but has not yet issued permits for the rally set to be held at Lafayette Square, a seven-acre park just north of the White House. The event is to be organized by Jason Kessler, the organizer of the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville where 32-year-old Heather Heyer was hit and killed by an alleged white supremacist.

"This year we have a new purpose," Kessler said, discussing the upcoming rally. "That's to talk about the civil rights abuse that happened in Charlottesville, Virginia last year."

Kessler claimed it wasn't his fault that "that stuff happened," and said that in the months since the rally ostensibly intended to "defend" a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee, "white civil rights" have taken a hit.

"We're not able to peacefully assemble. We're not able to speak," he told WUSA. "I keep telling people if your right to rally and your right to protest means that someone else's life might be in danger, then it is no longer free speech but it is hate speech."

And how will you know when demands for "more diversity" have gone too far in deep blue areas of the map? A lot of people just want to see things judged on their merits. Supporting diversity is equivalent to being nice, if you're inclined that way. Niceness is good, but somewhat orthogonal to getting stuff done.

Oh sod off with that goalpost-moving whataboutism. This isn't about diversity or quotas, it's about basic fucking civil rights for *everyone,* regardless of whether they're "diverse" or not. Seriously, fuck you and fuck everyone who does what you just tried to do there.

I'm white, cisgender, and can pass for straight (i.e., I'm femme-presenting), and we've got legal same-sex marriage, so *for the moment* I'm doing pretty good. Rather poor though, and poor people have fewer rights everywhere and everywhen.

Thing is, though: 1) other people *don't* and 2) I could very easily become "other people," especially in the current and near-future political climate. It wasn't even 50 years ago that gays and lesbians were persona non grata pretty much everywhere, it wasn't even 100 years ago when women couldn't even goddamn VOTE. If nothing else, it's in my own self-interest to help others less fortunate, because the civil rights I save might very well be my own. And that's the most selfish, inward-looking, shortsighted possible way of looking at it.

You realize that those 'rednecks' you hate are poor too?

They probably work a lot harder than you ever have and still make little, if any, more.

Cuase that is germane to the point how again? You assume hate of rednecks, but it is just hate of shitty racist rednecks who vote against their own interests.

Nice assumption there. You know what they say about assuming, you make an ass out of U and some Chinese guy named Ming who has nothing to do with this and doesn't deserve your abuse. The AC below you answered for me: I don't hate those people, I just wish they'd wake the fuck up and realize they're being manipulated.

Odd how you jump to that conclusion so quickly. Says more about what you think of people with differing viewpoints than anything.

I'm sure they'd say the same thing about you. Everyone has their own priorities and point of view... It also helps your argument when you act like a decent, rational, and mature person rather than alternately dehumanizing and infantilizing people you disagree with. Arrogance and ad-hominem at every turn will only make them get further entrenched.

Yes, everyone has their own opinion and priorities and point of view...and these are worth more or less according to how well they mesh with observable reality.

In other words, there is no legal right that others possess that you don't. There is no legal right that others possess that specific other citizens don't. You completely avoided answering the question.

I'm not asking about the past. I'm not asking about the future. I'm asking about RIGHT NOW. Specific legal rights. Now. Not social consequences (note that you feel free to use at least a nickname here, while those disagreeing with you have to remain an AC out of fear of doxing or being fired by the social shock troops). Legal only.

List them. If you can't, at least switch to a different set of lies for a while.

Jesus fucking Christ, if you really think there's no difference between de facto and de jure you're not cognitively equipped for this discussion--either that, or you're so completely sunk in self-serving denial it would take a crowbar to lever you out of it.

She figured out she was a lesbian, not bisexual after moving across the US (ivy league schools), where she was a graduate student, civil rights advocate, and anti-war. She became so concerned of getting outed and losing her career that she had a nervous breakdown that eventually lead to suicide about a year later.

Her ex-GF/roommate from before she moved spent her whole life regretful over not doing more to help her, despite the fact that she spent the rest of her life helping others so they didn't come to that end themselves.

She's a self loathing white, and doesn't (yet) have the right to a race transplant.
