The National Park Service has approved an application for a year anniversary commemoration of Charlottesville's violent white supremacist rally to be held in Washington, DC.

DC's WUSA9 reported that NPS approved the application but has not yet issued permits for the rally set to be held at Lafayette Square, a seven-acre park just north of the White House. The event is to be organized by Jason Kessler, the organizer of the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville where 32-year-old Heather Heyer was hit and killed by an alleged white supremacist.

"This year we have a new purpose," Kessler said, discussing the upcoming rally. "That's to talk about the civil rights abuse that happened in Charlottesville, Virginia last year."

Kessler claimed it wasn't his fault that "that stuff happened," and said that in the months since the rally ostensibly intended to "defend" a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee, "white civil rights" have taken a hit.

"We're not able to peacefully assemble. We're not able to speak," he told WUSA. "I keep telling people if your right to rally and your right to protest means that someone else's life might be in danger, then it is no longer free speech but it is hate speech."

I went to grade school in a very liberal place that was 95% white. My first introduction to noticing that the white kids and two black kids are different was the teacher telling us that us white kids are all racist because we treat blacks like crap. This made the two black kids feel uncomftorable because they just learned they are victims and made the white kids feel awkward to learn that they are oppressive. Either we are all the same one human race and we should outright reject those that say otherwise or we need to hold up diversity as good as everyone brings something unique to the table.

Pushing that one group is the enemy will only cause problems between the groups. You should watch out for and refuse hatred between the various groups. That racist uncle regardless of who he hates should be treated as if he is crazy instead of treated like he is just the average joe just like all the others just that he expresses his hatred.

When racists go do racist shit regardless of the side i just ignore it out of hand as a bunch of cooks instead of yelling that i spotted the native behavior of "x" group and say the whole group should be punished.

Where does "white pride" cross the line? Is the guy who studies french cuisine racist because he doesn't like asian fusion? Does he become racist when he funds or participates in the local german festival? Is it when he talks about how proud he is of his grandfather came here from poverty in the UK but wants to keep the family traditions? Is it when he is proud of a different relative for fighting in WW2? Is it when he calls a mexican a slur? Is it when he puts on a white robe and burns a cross? Are immigrants who come here from Italy and fly the Italian flag racist for holding onto their roots?

To me you become a problem when you are using slurs in anger, participating in klan activities, etc. I dont see attending german festivals/etc as racist, but many do. The liberals where i live think you would be racist after the first item in the list from the prior paragraph, and that doesn't make sense to me. There is a huge divide here. These rallies are going to see everything from the Italian immigrant who wants to take pride in his Italian roots to the guys with robes and tiki torches, does that mean you lock them all up? I dont think you lock up everyone from the Ferguson protests just because a few asshats were looting, but then again I'm not racist.

Judge someone not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character
