BBC,

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was kicked out of a restaurant on Friday night because she works for President Donald Trump. A co-owner of the Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia, asked Ms Sanders and her family to leave as a protest against the Trump administration.

She told the Washington Post that she decided to ask the Trump spokeswoman to leave the 26-seat, "farm-to-table" restaurant after talking to her staff. "Tell me what you want me to do. I can ask her to leave," she said she told them. "They said yes."

The incident comes days after Homeland Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was booed at a Mexican restaurant in Washington DC. Critics of the Red Hen's decision said that it was discriminatory. However, others compared the restaurant's decision to a recent Supreme Court ruling in favour of a baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple, in a case seen by many conservatives as a test for religious freedom.

WaPo - the owner of the Red Hen explains

[...] She [Ms Wilkinson (the proprietor)] knew Lexington, population 7,000, had voted overwhelmingly against Trump in a county that voted overwhelmingly for him. She knew the community was deeply divided over such issues as Confederate flags. She knew, she said, that her restaurant and its half-dozen servers and cooks had managed to stay in business for 10 years by keeping politics off the menu.

[...] It was important to Wilkinson, she said, that Sanders had already been served — that her staff had not simply refused her on sight. And it was important to her that Sanders was a public official, not just a customer with whom she disagreed, many of whom were included in her regular clientele.

"They offered to pay," Wilkinson said. "I said, 'No. It's on the house.' "

It might matter if it was done for political affiliation. It seems it was done for having an active role defending and helping formulate specific immoral actions of the Trump administration.

We used to do that, but then too many people complained about putting kids in jails. So they were separated into nicer 'detention centers'. And now people are whining about the kids being separated. And as soon as they're put with their parents you'll be complaining about jailing them again. And you refuse to support good border protection. Etc...

If you don't like it then address the original problems: why people are trying to illegally enter. Don't try to address symptoms of that problem. How different is what is happening on the border than the first few days of daycare or school? The kid doesn't know that their parents are returning. What about extended hospital stays? Is the trauma worse than what the hospital is doing by separating them?

Maybe if you dont want your kids to be separated from you you dont break the law of a foreign country. If you want to be a refugee go to the american consolate in Mexico or where ever and follow the legal process. I am for bringing in more immigrants but against anyone violating the law to get here.

is it even a misdemeanor to arrive in the US and present yourself to the proper authorities to apply for asylum?

I'm going to tag the following clearly to differentiate between fact and opinion so as not to confuse the question.

Fact: It is a crime for an alien to enter the United States at any location that is not a designated port of entry.
                        Supporting Evidence: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1325 [cornell.edu]

Fact: Would-be asylum seekers can apply for asylum at any port of entry or any one of the 10 US Consulates and Embassies in Mexico. The ports of entry at the border are heavily loaded with asylum seekers, and have delays of up to two weeks at peak times.

Opinion: To me, it does not seem unreasonable to want some level of control or monitoring over who enters a country. Asking people to apply for asylum at the border is not unreasonable in situations other than hot pursuit too. These are malleable positions, and I'm willing to hear counterarguments to this. That said, the delay at the ports is a problem. Instead of pushing for solving the hard problems like DACA and immigration quotas, let's fix this. We could throw people and technology at the problem to make the process faster.

I also see our tiny immigration quota from south and central America as a problem. It would take more than a century to meet the current demand at today's rate. If we're going to use the stick of stricter border enforcement, we should also use the carrot of making it easier to legally immigrate.

Opinion: News coverage of this issue is written by fallible people with biases and preconceptions on both sides. Care should be taken to be sure to understand the issue before making judgements.
Supporting Evidence: Time Magazine: "Correction (Posted June 19): The original version of this story misstated what happened to the girl in the photo after she was taken from the scene. The girl was not carried away screaming by U.S. Border Patrol agents; her mother picked her up and the two were taken away together. The same denomination of the same currency. Over and over again - no matter how many times you flip that thing, it's still the same old coin.
