BBC,

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was kicked out of a restaurant on Friday night because she works for President Donald Trump. A co-owner of the Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia, asked Ms Sanders and her family to leave as a protest against the Trump administration.

She told the Washington Post that she decided to ask the Trump spokeswoman to leave the 26-seat, "farm-to-table" restaurant after talking to her staff. "Tell me what you want me to do. I can ask her to leave," she said she told them. "They said yes."

The incident comes days after Homeland Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was booed at a Mexican restaurant in Washington DC. Critics of the Red Hen's decision said that it was discriminatory. However, others compared the restaurant's decision to a recent Supreme Court ruling in favour of a baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple, in a case seen by many conservatives as a test for religious freedom.

WaPo - the owner of the Red Hen explains

[...] She [Ms Wilkinson (the proprietor)] knew Lexington, population 7,000, had voted overwhelmingly against Trump in a county that voted overwhelmingly for him. She knew the community was deeply divided over such issues as Confederate flags. She knew, she said, that her restaurant and its half-dozen servers and cooks had managed to stay in business for 10 years by keeping politics off the menu.

[...] It was important to Wilkinson, she said, that Sanders had already been served — that her staff had not simply refused her on sight. And it was important to her that Sanders was a public official, not just a customer with whom she disagreed, many of whom were included in her regular clientele.

"They offered to pay," Wilkinson said. "I said, 'No. It's on the house.' "

Can't the restaurant owner refuse her just for the safety of her staff and patrons? Like, that her previous actions, her stated stance, and her representing the administration that would detain people who may *appear* to be illegal based on skin color, accent, facial hair or whatever, prove disruptive to the owner's ability to run a business?

Sanders' personal beliefs and stated stance is one thing, but it seems like it would be a short step to consider her having the power, connections, and precedence to call in what would in effect be a warrantless raid just before dessert.

... if they can also refuse black people for that reason. You know, the staff and patrons feel unsafe. So sorry.

One view is racist, the other view is individualist. I would 100% refuse service to a war criminal and tell them to fuck off, but I wouldn't do the same thing to another patron of the same race.

Is this too nuanced for you? Sanders is a lying sociopath, you can see the laughter in her eyes when she lays down a whopper. I wouldn't want my restaurant associated in any way with that lying whore.

The nuances come through just fine. The CTRL-LEFT approves of freedom, but only when the CTRL-LEFT likes a person. So, just like any white supremacist who hates blacks.

Pick up a coin, please. Doesn't matter what currency, or denomination. Just reach into your pocket, or your buddy's pocket, grab a coin. Presumably, it has some person's head on the front, and just about anything on the back. You flip it, it comes up heads, or tails. But, it's the same coin, either way, right? Go ahead, flip it. Flip it a dozen times or more. Each and every flip, you get the identical same coin back. Does it REALLY look any different if it comes up heads or tails? You get the same metallic sheen. The same denomination of the same currency. Over and over again - no matter how many times you flip that thing, it's still the same old coin.

Racism, bigotry, political differences, ethnicity, religion - on and on it goes. And, it's all the same. Yes - some leftist being prejudiced against a righty because politics - it's just another face of the same old coin. You can PRETEND to be superior, but, no, it doesn't work. All in all, you're just another prick in the wall, and your prejudices are indistinguishable from any other set of prejudices.
