Forbes.com has published a piece by contributor Jason Evangelho entitled "5 Reasons You Should Switch From Windows To Linux Right Now".

When I published the highlights of my journey switching from Windows to Linux on my everyday laptop... it became one of my most viewed pieces this year. From where I'm sitting, that tells me a ton of people are interested -- are at least actively curious -- about ditching Windows and making the jump to Linux.

With that in mind, I wanted to present five reasons that may lead you to consider switching. Know that these are subjective, and they're targeted at the average Windows user and not folks who rely on Windows-exclusive applications for a paycheck.

One thing to know right up front: the modern Linux desktop OS is no longer the obtuse, bewildering and command line driven thing it used to be. Not remotely.

It's nice to see a free operating system getting some love in the mainstream press. Forbes running this article is more the story here than desktop Linux having advantages over Windows.

Be sure to read TFA to find out what the five reasons are. (Or see spoiler, below.)

1: Linux Gets Out Of Your Way
2: You're Not A Slave To The Terminal
3: Installing Software Is Even Easier
4: Updates aren't a headache. They're glorious
5: The Linux Community

OSS kills business and only socialist hippies use linsux.

I recall OSSv3 ditching the GPL friendly license which harmed the socialist hippies using linux, and that's why there's now ALSA. If anything, OSS is not commie software. Of course, with release of OSSv4 the licensing allows it to exist back in the repos. I actually ran OSSv4 on Ubuntu successfully for several years. The only issue I encountered was trying to easily pipe sound from the desktop speakers to some bluetooth speakers from time to time without using the command line.

Android has a Linux kernel, but an operating system is much more than the kernel. In fact, an Android device is much more closed than a regular windows PC/Laptop.

        Simple questions:
        a) Is the most used consumer operating system based on linux ?
        b) Did I say anything about open/closed, OSS utopias, open source, or full control Wet Dreams ?

how do you justify your reply to my post?

I'll explain at the fish fry this Friday. The special is red herring.

The fact that Android made Linux the most used consumer kernel doesn't matter much in the context of the featured article by Jason Evangelho, which is about switching from Windows to X11/Linux for purpose of reducing system resource use and increasing user freedom and ease of administration. Allow me to evaluate Android with respect to the five claims that Evangelho makes about X11/Linux:

No notification spam about UI feature onboarding
Not true of Android, which still spams me to set up things like face and voice unlocks and "Hey Google".
Administration does not require near as much terminal use as two decades ago
True of Android, but it's true of Windows as well.
          Installing applications is easy
True of Android with Google Play. The Microsoft Store experience reportedly has catching up to do, seeing as Desktop Bridge (which allows distributing Windows desktop apps on Microsoft Store) is far newer than GUI frontends to APT and incurs a recurring fee for even free software developers.
Updates cover both OS and apps, and the user can delay their installation
True of Android to an extent. OS updates continue only as long as your manufacturer and carrier (where applicable) continue to provide updates for your device. Project Treble may fix this, allowing a new userland on top of an old kernel using a hardware abstraction layer. But then again, it might not, as new major versions of Android generally require more RAM and larger/faster SSD than older versions. (Android 5 "Lollipop" lagged like hell on a first-gen Nexus 7, for instance.) We'll see how that plays out once Android 8 "Oreo" trickles down to entry-level Android devices.
          Community support
Not quite as fervent advocates as X11/Linux, though I imagine the custom ROM scene might come close.
