It's not because artists are making less in their hats, it's because the event is sponsored by a bank.

Ouchie, the 1.75% fee seems a little higher than the fee for cash, which remains 0%.

    https://www.izettle.com/gb/pricing [izettle.com]

Also, at least in the USA, cash payments are usually not reported as income to the feds, thus the income tax rate is 0%, whereas "big brother inside" certainly dumps complete transaction logs to Big Brother, and euro-land is not famous for low income tax rates LOL, so the "effective loss of purchasing power" for the end user is likely a bit larger than the reported 1.75%

Finally.. the name .. izettle .. which was purchased by the paypal axis of evil early this year, BTW... but that name, oh... See thats German for i- as in internet dash scattering stuff around, so its like internet identify theft, which is probably not the marketing message they were hoping far; almost as bad as the possibly apocryphal "Chevy No Va" not selling well to Spanish speakers because "no va" means convert it into a low rider in Spanish oh shit no I think it actually means "no go" when translated back to English. So makes sense they're running under this marketing name in Scotland and not Berlin. Hello fellow urban hipster, would you like to swipe your card in my identity theft slot, no sir, I mean zir, that is not a grindr metaphor it is in fact my extremely high fee cashless payment system, zir.

Street performer waves reader in front of audience soliciting contributions. Some step back quickly, but the reader has already taken contributions from not just one but all the contactless cards in their wallets.
