The Portland Mercury reports:

For many years, local libraries have allowed patrons to check out physical media—from vinyl LPs to eight tracks to cassettes to CDs—free of charge. Last month, Multnomah County Library launched the Library Music Project, an online platform that's continuing this legacy of accessibility by curating an online collection of albums from local artists [...]

Anyone can stream albums from more than 120 local artists on the Library Music Project's user-friendly website, but to make playlists or download songs, you must log in with a Multnomah County Library card. [...]

It's not totally uncharted territory—libraries in Madison, Wisconsin; Edmonton, Alberta; Nashville, Tennessee; and Seattle, Washington, all have similar programs in place.

Also of note, the price for the software:

Set up MUSICat starting at $14,000 plus an annual subscription fee based on your library's population size.

Partner Libraries also pay licensing fees directly to their local artists. Fees and collection size are set by libraries.

Ahson was his name. Known in his community for his rampant littering, his reputation was nonetheless excellent. Why would someone who was actually famous for littering have such a stellar reputation? There were many reasons for that.

A group of children was happily playing ball in a park on a sunny day. These children were living, breathing, and happy. And then Ahson arrived.

A group of women was chatting happily in an ordinary backyard. These women were living, breathing, and carefree. And then Ahson arrived.

A woman who had recently given birth to her baby was breastfeeding it on a public bench. This woman and her baby were living, breathing, and had bright futures ahead of them. And then Ahson arrived.

This great man, Ahson, generated garbage wherever he went. Instead of throwing it away, he left that wretched garbage to rot in place. But despite this, Ahson's reputation was excellent; it was because that garbage - that rotting, rancid garbage that he always left behind - fully understood men's rights.

Yes, those women, children, and babies all fully understood men's rights...

Another splendid tale. Have you a single tome of collected works? I wish to purchase your writings in a book and donate it to the library.

That "Fuck Natalee Holloway" was Number 2 at Google for "Natalee Holloway" led Rusty Foster to receive a great many death threats.

Librarians are always quite rigorously conscientious about copyright.

I expected they needed something like MUSICat so as to ensure their artists got their just rewards.

I'm going to send them my Creative Commons piano EP [soggywizards.com] so as to throw a wrench in their system.
