Sure, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 boasts 755 horsepower, but is that really enough power to keep you happy? If your answer is "no," look no further than Specialty Vehicle Engineering's Yenko/SC Stage II Corvette upgrade. It takes a standard 460-horsepower 2019 Corvette Grand Sport and cranks it up to 1,000 horsepower.
While plenty of aftermarket companies can offer ludicrously powerful cars, what's interesting about this Yenko upgrade is that it can be ordered directly through any Chevrolet dealership when you order your new Corvette. The car goes from Chevy to Specialty Vehicle Engineering, and then back to the dealership for you to pick it up completed. Specialty Vehicle Engineering, which was formerly known as SLP, has a 25-year history doing this type of "Second Stage Vehicle Manufacturer" business with General Motors dealerships. It also offers supercharging packages for the Camaro, Tahoe/Suburban and Escalade.

We've been talking about efficient cars for a while. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce the carbon footprint, drive less, etc. Yet we still see lots of big, heavy and overpowered cars being designed and produced. We've already reached earth overshoot day and are moving forward at full speed into a brick wall. Why are we so susceptible to "shiny" things that, in the light of the environment, make no sense at all? I'm almost prepared to give up on humankind and wait for us to go extinct, or, are we at all worth saving?

You know the funny things about powerful, exhilarating cars? Electric sports cars accelerate much quicker and can easily go faster than their internal combustion engined equivalent for a lot less money. I test-drove a Tesla S a while ago, and it's just incredimazing how hard this heavy sedan accelerates...
If all you want is a kick in the pants when you step on it, you're better off with an electric car - which could be argued is slightly better for the planet. Of course, it doesn't make stupid amounts of engine noise, so you won't be able to impress your buddies in car meets. And you'll have to find a recharge socket more often than you'd like. Still, for raw performances on the cheap, I'd go electric myself.

To be pedantic, you can buy a Mustang or Camaro that will outrun a Tesla Model S for a lot less money. The Model S will launch off the line faster, but you can mod the combustion engine car to beat the the Model S in the quarter mile (and higher) for a total price far less than the Model S sticker.

I'm a major environmentalist and even I agree with that. Sort out the container ships and aircraft instead.

About those container ships: They run on fuels which contain loads and loads of sulphur. So they emit more sulphur that a countries fleet of cars. People who want to justify their use of cars then take that as an excuse to continue driving. That is wrong, cars emits way more CO2 than container ships. Sulphur is a classical pollutant, responsible for acid rain. But it isn't a greenhouse gas - if anything it reduces insolation at the surface. CO2 overproduction is the problem, thus driving a car is problematic.
The weird thing is people latch on to the container ship meme... self delusion... in its most reprehensible form.
