Marketwatch brings good news for the USA: American workers are finally reaping the benefits of the lowest unemployment rate and best jobs market in decades: Wages and benefits are rising at the fastest pace in a decade. Firms have sought to fill openings by offering better benefits such as more vacation time or flexible hours. When push comes to shove, they are offering higher pay. While bigger paychecks are great for workers, the US Federal Reserve is watching closely to see if rising compensation is stoking inflation. The Federal Reserve could increase U.S. interest rates if it becomes a big worry, but so far inflation remains relatively mild.

Today in the USA, you can work for $0.00 per hour. (volunteering, unpaid internship, etc.) You can also work for negative amounts (training) and for large positive amounts.

Why must we discriminate against people who are worth $3.14 per hour? They deserve jobs too. This can be an old man who greets people at a store. He feels useful and productive, he gets a little exercise, and he gets some social interaction. Why must this be illegal?

We need a bit of inflation right now, in order to effectively eliminate the minimum wage. Damn it. Look, if you want a stupid cycle of price floors and inflation, move to Venezuela.

Further, a considerable number of the people who currently are worth $3.14 an hour would be worth more later due to increased skill and experience from working the job in question. And whatever goods and services they are providing would be cheaper as well. I notice a certain sort of person is carelessly ignoring cost of living when they blather about living wages. There's no reason for cost of living to be as high as it is in the developed world. It's that way due to many institutions, public and private which make it so. One can't magically create new land, but one can make societies that don't try to make life expensive for everyone.
