Reuters reports:

EDF has halted four nuclear reactors at three power plants in France because of the current heatwave affecting Europe, a spokesman for the utility said on Saturday.

High temperatures registered in the Rhone and Rhine rivers, from which the three power plants pump their water for cooling, led to a temporary shutdown of the reactors, the spokesman said.

The Associated Press story at The Reading Eagle explains that excessive heat is harmful to fish.

They surrender to the darn ecologists who don't like to fish pre-cooked fish.
When your outlet is limited by law to certain temp, but the input keeps getting hotter, your margin vanishes, and you have to scram to protect the fishes.
If that ends up causing outages and humans die, who gives a shit ? #fisharefriendsnotcollateraldamage

Pffft, ecological collapse has a much greater chance of causing human death than the lack of power. Also, human societies should start preparing for bad situations now instead of ignoring the warnings.

      -ow".

Just in a minor way but I'll be ramping up Real Soon Now.

For a while now I've got the idea in my head that drinking lots of whole milk would compensate for my otherwise-poor diet. That leads me to accumulate lots of empty milk just in my recycling bin.

A couple months ago I started rinsing them out, filling them with water then stashing them out of the way in one corner of my room.

I'm doing that now at NedSpace as well - it's a downtown Portland co-working space where I now lease a desk. NedSpace _totally_ Rocks!

I'm busted flat just now because I blew a smoking crater into my $15,000 paycheck [warplife.com], so I'm not yet able to stockpile food. But Real Soon Now I'll complete for another client, at which time I'll receive another hefty paycheck that I may blow another smoking crater into it.

When I do get that money I'll shop at a wholesale grocer so as to buy several cases of canned food. Hearty, wholesome nutritious food such as Tostito's Scoops, Nacho Cheese sauce and the like. I'll have to take a taxi to get it all home. I'll come back the next day to pick up some cases to keep at NedSpace as well.

For Portland or Vancouver to get so much as one-half inch of snow shuts both cities completely down. What would happen were a major ice storm to topple the high-voltage transmission line towers, as actually happened in Quebec back in the day? It's not like the Quebecois aren't prepared for cold weather yet a great many froze to death.

I'll not let that happen to me. I'll watch all the fun on TV as I ladle up some Nacho for my Tostitos!

I sure hope you're doing more than just rinsing the milk jugs. A little soap and hot water go a long way to prevent bacteria build-up.
