Print-on-demand service CreateSpace has been owned by Amazon since 2005 and is now getting the axe. As authors begin having their accounts migrated to Amazon's replacement Kindle Direct Publishing service, many are complaining of less favorable terms, technical glitches with the website, and KDP's inability to print faithful copies of existing works. Some books have incurred severe formatting errors, and others can't be printed due to missing language support.

Sometime around next April I'm going to pay for a dead-tree print run with a collection of my essays on mental illness [warplife.com], as well as one with just Living with Schizoaffective Disorder [warplife.com].

A while back I read that one can purchase for seven hundred Samoleons whatever the ISBN crowds call an Organizationally Unique Identifier. That will enable me to start my own publishing company for just my own books. Is my desired domain still available?

    Yes.

There are several book printers in Portland. When I know how many pages there will be I'll ask for quotes for various numbers of books.

The LwSD-only books I'm going to snail mail to a whole bunch of police chiefs and sheriffs. The collections of essays I'll snail mail to county mental health clinics.

They'll be available for sale if you insist on paying me your own Samoleons but really that's not what I seek: among my most-deeply held moral principles is that no one should have to pay to benefit from my hard-won experience.
