After Russia was accused of using memes and viral images to influence elections, Facebook will now fact-check pictures and videos

Facebook will start fact-checking images and videos, the company said Thursday, expanding its review efforts to posts that are traditionally harder to monitor.

"People share millions of photos and videos on Facebook every day. We know that this kind of sharing is particularly compelling because it's visual. That said, it also creates an easy opportunity for manipulation by bad actors," Facebook said in a blog post.

Edited photos and strong visuals were common among the posts by Russian agents attempting to interfere with the 2016 U.S. presidential election and other global elections, according to examples released by members of Congress.

So we should dismantle Google, Facebook, and Fox news?

Gaddds youre such an idiot. Big difference between foreign governments interfering and local corporatoons interfering. Super PACS should all be sued out of existence, and hypocritical morons such as yourself should be imprisoned for life for the common good.

Israel is a foreign government. It interferes in every American election, on every level, through its lobby, AIPAC. AIPAC is the third most influential lobby in the USA, after the #1 AARP and #2 NRA. Israel has been doing this for decades, with no outcry. Through it, it has managed to steal American nuclear secrets and build themselves a nuclear arsenal. It has helped itself to billions of our tax dollars in "aid." It has even used it to get away with actual attacks on the American military, and get away clean, with no consequences.

Where is the special counsel to investigate and unravel that web of foreign influence?

Something tells me that had I replaced "Israel" with "Russia," you would have been baying for blood, for war to be called down upon them and a massive purge of the American political system. Something else tells me that inserting "Israel" into any such string of facts would have you letting them get away with literal murder. Why is that? Could it be you are laboring under a massive case of hypocrisy?

Me, I would like for no one, no massive corporation, no foreign government, no nefarious organization, to meddle in our elections at all, on any level, in any respect. I would like elections to be decided by average voters, people who get up and do the hard work of civilization every day. I'm old-fashioned that way.

We barely have any campaign finance regulations in this country and Israel manages to comply with them.
SuperPACS, lobbyists of all stripes are shady as hell but legal.

Russia doesn't. Trump people, don't. They're breaking those laws.

It's really as simple as that.

We need stronger laws in addition to enforcing the ones we have. But, that's just evil job-killing regulation to most the folks on here..

"It's really as simple as that."

It really isn't, though. There's a tremendous double standard there. The chattering classes are absolutely aghast at just hints of improprieties involving the Russians. If they involve the Israelis, or the "Five Eyes" then nah, it doesn't raise any outrage, the laws simply aren't enforced; even the ones concerning nukes. RT is registered under FARA - AIPAC is not. The inconsistency in application is glaring.

Russian intelligence colluding with the Clinton campaign through the cutout of Christopher Steele. It was right there in what I wrote, somehow that whooshed over your empty head.

And whatever hypothetical Russian influence via social media may or may not have occurred was a) lost in the noise of the meddling those companies were themselves engaged in, b) by all accounts intended to sow discord and distrust, something the mainstream American media is doing a far better job of.

And tying both in in neat bow, take another look at Google. Founder? Russian Jew. Now you know why the Old Testament said a foreigner could never be a member of the Tribes of Israel, that not unto the seventh generation would the visitor be.

And because it is "my thing", lets reject the premise behind your argument. If interferring in foreign elections is such an act of war, why do we do it so much? Twitter deplatformed an entire political party in Brazil recently, decides what politicians can and can't say in campaigns around the world, demanding they all obey the $current_year PC nonsense of the American Empire. Obama openly and notoriously sent his entire campaign team to Israel to work with an opposition candidate in an attempt to overthrow the government in favor of a more pro communist one. I could of course continue citing examples until this became a wall of text post. But the point is made.
