As technology and society change the work we do changes with it. Some people with lots of data about what work people do have picked out five up and coming in demand jobs in Australia for 2018 showing which career paths are likely to be worth aiming for in the next decade. The positions have been described as "Customer success manager", "Data scientist", "Full stack engineer", "Cyber security", and "Experience designer". This will primarily be of interest to IT graduates and anyone already in IT looking to cash in on the changing direction of the industry.

Those wanting to make code contributions to the Linux kernel cannot be called, by any stretch of the word, its "customers". The term "customers" most properly applies to those who actually use the kernel itself, and they are well served by a maintainer who only accepts the best quality contributions and rejects garbage contributions with extreme prejudice. And no, I think reports of Linus being "fired" are rather premature. When Linus is gone from the scene for whatever reason, maintenance of the kernel might fragment into several variants, perhaps rather like the proliferation of Protestant sects after the Reformation.
