F.D.A. Seizes Documents From Juul Headquarters

The Food and Drug Administration conducted a surprise inspection of the headquarters of the e-cigarette maker Juul Labs last Friday, carting away more than a thousand documents it said were related to the company's sales and marketing practices.

The move, announced on Tuesday, was seen as an attempt to ratchet up pressure on the company, which controls 72 percent of the e-cigarette market in the United States and whose products have become popular in high schools. The F.D.A. said it was particularly interested in whether Juul deliberately targeted minors as consumers.

"The new and highly disturbing data we have on youth use demonstrates plainly that e-cigarettes are creating an epidemic of regular nicotine use among teens," the F.D.A. said in a statement. "It is vital that we take action to understand and address the particular appeal of, and ease of access to, these products among kids."

I think the govt should leave vape pen manufacturers alone until cigarette smoking is basically extinct.
    Vaping is less harmful.

I switched to vaping except at work a while back, and I don't get gobs of phlegm in my throat any more. No more hacking and wheezing either. Other than a SMOK mod that went up in flames on me the second I plugged it into my computer, it's been pretty good. I'm using a Fuchai mod these days with a Cleito tank.

The only thing is that the coils have gotten very expensive and don't seem to have as much quality as they used to. I used a Kanger Nano for a long time. The coils started out at like $1 a piece which was ok, but then they crept up to like $4 each. My current tank's coils cost like 6 frikkin bucks! At least they give good cloud and flavor, but they're only good for about one 60 ml bottle. Planning to switch to a tank for self-made coils soon.

Of course, different vape juice is better or worse for coils. Avoid vape juices with sugar. I've found those will destroy a coil in like 6 hours flat. I'm really liking Naked's juices.

What I really miss though was when one of the local vape shops could still mix their own juice right there in the store. But no, the FDA decided to save us from ourselves. (Or rather, save a few big corporations from the horrors of competition in the free market.) I'd bet this teenage vape thing is 90% moral panic started by big tobacco. I don't know anybody who uses Juul's products. Kanger is way better for entry-level. Vote Libertarian next month I guess.

You can get unflavored VG/PG pretty cheaply online. ~$20/gallon is normal, and flavors are cheap as well. One gallon has lasted me over a year now. I'd also recommend building your own coils, even though it is a bit of a pain compared to just swapping them out. Once you know what kind of wire you want (kanthal, SS, Ti, etc), and the gauge you want, a spool and pack of cotton is maybe $10 and will last a long time.
