Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey wants to fix 'filter bubbles' on the social network

[...] Dorsey noted that the site by design allows users to follow certain accounts, which could skew their perception of the world. If users followed a certain topic or interest, they might see more tweets from people with different viewpoints, he said.

Twitter needs to give users more tools to break down these bubbles, Dorsey acknowledged.

But as social media sites face allegations that it's suppressing conservative voices, these companies are also grappling with free speech concerns.

Except that Gab.ai censors quite heavily, more than Twitter and Faecebook. Discourse there is limited to a few approved narratives, nothing more. I only wonder if the management have always been fascist and were just faking being about free speech or if there was a turnover among them shifting the balance more recently. I haven't looked, won't look, but would still be curious to find out. Mastodon is not any better, just on the other side of the two-dimensional political spectrum. It may be federated but the block lists are published centrally, so in practice talk there about free speech or freedom of association is bullshit there too.

Fascist and Nazi as accusations are meaningless these days. They have simply become general terms for 'someone who doesn't agree' used to bolster arguments by shutting down discussion and disagreement.

    .
What evidence of heavy censorship have you seen on Gab?

    .
    1) they took down a post by some whackjob when forced to by their registrar to keep their hosting.
    2) their android app, in order to be hosted in Google's app store, is required to use a stupid keyword filter
    .
Both are compromises to reality and certainly neither is perfect, but also neither match what you are saying.
    .
Now i've seen every imaginable opinion and viewpoint on Gab. There's no denying the user-base is weighted heavily toward the legions disaffected with current social media, but that isn't censorship. Is there any slight possibility that 'heavy censorship' is really just a way of saying the prevailing opinion there doesn't appeal to you?

No. They come down with the ban hammer frequently and hard. It picked up this year and I finally stopped paying attention to them when they banned TuxMachines [schestowitz.com].

Tuxmachines is alive and well on Gab with posts going back over a year that I can see with almost daily postings.
        .
The closest thing I can find was a single posted comment about "tuxmachinesNazis" being banned (still surprising if valid, even with a name like that). The blog post you linked is the only place that references tuxmachines being banned on Gab (which it is obviously not.) Nothing else anywhere. No responses, no questions, no search engine references, nothing.
        .
I notice that tuxmachines is also on twitter and mastodon, but 'tuxmachinesNazis' is not present on them either.
        .
Can you clarify or do you have any more of this frequent/hard banning that might shed more light?

Regardless I'll keep an eye out, but I just haven't seen things disappear on me there, whereas I've gotten kind of used to things being whacked completely, de-emphasized in my feeds, having content disappear, and demonetization on the main social media feeds.
