GNU Kind Communication Guidelines

Lest you think this is yet another CoC, the guidelines assure you that they are not a CoC.

Announcing the GNU Kind Communication Guidelines

The GNU Kind Communication Guidelines, initial version, have been published in https://gnu.org/philosophy/kind-communication.html. On behalf of the GNU Project, I ask all GNU contributors to make their best efforts to follow these guidelines in GNU Project discuaaions[sic].

[ . . . ] The difference between kind communication guidelines and a code of conduct is a matter of the basic overall approach.

A code of conduct states rules, with punishments for anyone that violates them.

[...] The idea of the GNU Kind Communication Guidelines is to start guiding people towards kinder communication at a point well before one would even think of saying, "You are breaking the rules." The way we do this, rather than ordering people to be kind or else, is try to help people learn to make their communication more kind.

[ . . . . ] I disagree with making "diversity" a goal. If the developers in a specific free software project do not include demographic D, I don't think that the lack of them as a problem that requires action

The best way to avoid conflict and encourage diversity is to force everyone to voluntarily think alike.

Sorry, but that's not what I had in mind.

Software (and FOSS in particular) is the domain of people who don't want to meet face-to-face, especially in large numbers at a special-purpose event. Hell, you can say something stronger: They WANT not to meet in meatspace.

No wonder there's a huge fucking divide in the "community". All the weirdo extroverts are projecting their weirdoness on the rest of us hard-nosed computer nerds.

It's like the leftists of Hollywood or New York trying to tell middle America how sexually perverted all men are. NO. Your leftist men are the perverts. It's the same problem here; when tranny "women" programmers and horny autists descend in a centralized location, shit is gonna get strange, and it has nothing to do with the rest of us who are busy writing and discussing patches on the mailing lists.

All of the problems disappear under this interpretation of English; everything makes sense, and requires very little change.

Furthermore, this is the quintessential human experience:

                  • He and she did it in front of them.

Challenging bad behavoir and/or calling it out is an unfortunate necessity. Passively letting it continue is the same as encouraging and approving it. If you don't stand up to those who wish to be abusive then they are emboldened. You may be OK with that but I am not.

Everyone needs to be told to treat others with common courtesy and respect. Ok ok, maybe 1% of the population is going to figure it out for themselves, or just naturally do so, but the rest need to be TOLD.

Usually this is done by parents, but not everyone is so lucky to have decent parents or even ones that wanted to keep them. People can learn, people do change.

You left out the corporate PR people, and the hired booth babes.

The real problem is taking a microscopic fraction of the community exclusively being weirdos, outliers, and drones, mix, observe the mixture is all messed up, and make inaccurately conclusions about the entire community.

A sports analogy would be watching Team A's quarterback totally screwing up the passing game, and using that as proof that everyone living in the geographic area around Team A cannot throw a football, because obviously the behavior of everyone in a large group is defined by an anecdote about some weirdo's antics at a weirdo event.

Sorry this is a bit tangential, but on the subject of booth babes...

My best friend is a mask maker, Commedia dell'Arte performer, playwright, juggler, professional clown, and actor with many bit parts to his credit (If you ever saw Hackers, he was the guy playing chess with the protagonist in Washington Square Park). He hangs out with a lot of people in the entertainment industry, and often holds salons at his apartment in Chelsea.

The last time he held one there was an attractive blonde woman there who went off on a fifteen minute rant about the feminists trying to shut down booth babes at conventions. Being a booth babe at the Javitz Center was the easiest, best money she made and she absolutely depended on it to make ends meet. She was really angry that other women would try to take away her right to decide to use her looks to make a living.

I had never hear that perspective before, and mention it here in case there are others who haven't, either.

24: Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women access to the mainstream of society.

Obviously your friend had no need for feminism, as an attractive woman equality with men in all things would be an obvious trade DOWN. All equalist movements, by definition, harm the above average in whatever quality is being equalized. This isn't even debatable, it is right there on the label.

Feminism doesn't just harm women that way though, it harms them worse by telling them things that simply aren't true that most women won't figure out until it is too late. But that would drift a bit too far from the current topic of Progressive stupidity.

I distinctly recall reading that story as a kid but never memorized the author or name.
It took a few minutes of digging but I found that the name of that short story is Harrison Bergeron. I first read it in an anthology of various artists' short stories given as a gift from my uncle.
Basically a federal law requires that all people be made equal once they come of age, including weights for the athletic, cosmetic disfigurements for the especially handsome, and loud noisemaking headsets or visors for people with above average intelligence or vision, respectively.
Definitely worth a read and you can find the full text here:

I had never hear that perspective before,

Extend that perspective, just a little, if you will. I've commented before about women who WANT to be housewives. I've specifically commented about Obama's speech, in which he stated "we don't WANT you to stay at home" or words to that effect. A woman who does not work and pay taxes is of little value to the government. And, those women who actually want to be stay-at-home moms resent a lot of the feminism, along with the economics that force them out of the home.

I don't think anyone has ever attempted a study, to find out how many women would stay at home, if they were able. I suspect that would be over 25%, and possibly greater than 50%. I doubt that it would be as high as 2/3, or 66%.

        Just something to think about.

Women are in complete control of whether they reproduce.

It's their body. Do you think you have a right to decide what happens to someone else's body? Where do we draw the line, at your body?

Women get to vote without being subject to the draft.

You can't blame women for this. Men made those rules, and men have tried to keep women out of the military for a long time. Can't have it both ways.

The majority of tax monies are paid by men, while the majority of welfare benefits are received by women.

Not all taxes go for "welfare benefits". The majority of welfare benefits government handouts are received by corporations and billionaires. Of the benefits that trickle down the needy, children are the largest recipients. If their dads had stuck around (for example, after interceding in your first point), well, read the next one.

The family courts have been shown to be biased towards rewarding women and punishing men.

Women are not rewarded in family court for the bad behavior of men. The men are just treated appropriately for their actions (accountability suck, doesn't it?). And if men acted like real men, rather than how they act in order to end up in family court, then you couldn't complain about your third point.

Sure, if a woman wants to abort or have the baby, that's entirely her business. The man should be able to abort his financial responsibilities.

Also, I see you skipped over the genital mutilation to which so many men are subjected; you can throw a party after stripping a boy of half his shaft tissue, much of which is specialized for protection AND pleasure, but if you so much as prick a girl's labia with a pin in order to draw a ritual drop of blood, then you've committed GENITAL MUTILATION according to local, national, and international law.

She offered to help me carry some heavy product literature boxes into a MacWorld Expo.

She got the job through her agency, as I expect did a great many booth babes that day.

"May I ask you a question?" "Yes."

"What's a high resolution graphics card?" She genuinely wanted to know, and struck me as intelligent.

You should think about why that view isn't more commonly heard. Simplest analysis will tell you that booth babes simply don't have much power. Rush Limbough is obviously wrong. Ugly girls are frequently born to rich alpha males, as usually rich alpha males are ugly and supporting a poor man's ex wife.

And why feminists aren't supporting them then? Because feminism is a refuge of rich women who don't want to compete with poor women for male attention. In fact, slut shaming is also done by rich women. There is simply too much research about this but it doesn't suit christian right or a American left narrative.

Yes, I'm very much aware of that. I have spoken out explicitly against them. It changes nothing. The "alt-right" right-wing authoritarian tribe continues to press for laws and policies that harm trans folks and continues to spout off their version of gender theory that is no less divorced from reality than the gender theory found in modern academia. The "SJW" right-wing authoritarian tribe continues to do everything they can to inflame the "alt-right," and it could be the case that unbeknownst to the useful idiots, the goal of the ruling class always was the creation of a fascist movement.

For some reason they don't understand that Revelation was just a fairy story. The curtains don't drop and we don't all file out of the theater and home to our normal lives after the real third impact. (The first two impacts being Hiroshima and Nagasaki....)

You may perceive it that way, and you could make an argument that they are being "mean" to you. However, having your misbehavior called out isn't really the time to try and reverse-asshole the situation. Own your shit asshole and stop trying to project it away.
