Science Daily:

A new study has established that excessive use of social media, in particular the posting of images and selfies, is associated with a subsequent increase in narcissism.
...
They also assessed the participants' usage of social media -- including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat -- during that same period.

Narcissism is a personality characteristic that can involve grandiose exhibitionism, beliefs relating to entitlement, and exploiting others.

Those who used social media excessively, through visual postings, displayed an average 25% increase in such narcissistic traits over the four months of the study.

This increase took many of these participants above the clinical cut-off for Narcissistic Personality Disorder, according to the measurement scale used.

TLDR: Social media encourages narcissism.

Not as bad as endlessly submitting aristarchus submissions. Alt-social media, as in anti-social rightwing narcissistic conservative disorder.

Top tier redundant adjective pile there.

But on the subject of disorders, the summary is strange. Because one of the diagnostic criteria for NPD mentioned in the summary is "interfering with ability to live life"(among several others). Merely increasing the personality dimension of "narcissism" can't, on its own, "put you over the clinical cutoff" for the disorder, you have to check off several other boxes as well before you can be diagnosed.

Say what you want about psychology as a field, armchair psychology is way worse.

But one narcissistic prof I knew had his department chair contemplating suicide

A constant challenge to mental health professionals is how to get uninsightful crazies into treatment. In the case of schizophrenia specifically that like of insight is due to organic brain damage caused by the disease. If left untreated further damage will occur which is untreatible.

there are ... oh ... 100 languages on the planet and maybe just as many writing system. they're all mostly sane people but cannot understand each other.
thus "sanity" is what the majority approves or in rare cases what the ruling class inflicts on the population.

Not all assholes are narcissists. But all narcissists are assholes.

I am up to a count of 3 in my life of people that are full on narcissists. They literally can not see what they do. They are incapable of it. Only one of them is getting any sort of help.... by court order.

"interfering with ability to live life"

Well they do seem to have trouble getting jobs.
