Ivanka Trump used personal email for official White House business

First daughter and presidential advisor Ivanka Trump used a personal email account dozens of times to conduct official White House business, The Washington Post reports, citing an internal White House investigation. It's an ironic revelation given her father's obsession with Hillary Clinton's own use of a private email server during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Federal law requires government officials to preserve written records of their activities—and that includes email. Government email systems are set up to comply with these laws, and federal IT guidelines require government officials to use their official email accounts for all official business. The use of official email accounts may also reduce the risk of sensitive communications being intercepted by foreign intelligence agencies.

[...] Ivanka Trump's use of a personal email account was discovered in September 2017. Ivanka said she was simply unfamiliar with rules requiring official business to be conducted via official email accounts—despite the fact that her father had made Hillary Clinton's violation of the same rules a central theme of his campaign.

Last year Politico reported that Ivanka Trump's husband, Jared Kusher, had been conducting official business using an email address on the same ijkfamily.com domain. But at the time it wasn't known if Ivanka was doing the same thing. We learned about Ivanka's use of the ijkfamily.com domain for government business last November, but until now we didn't know the extent of Ivanka's use of this activity.

This story is meant to bury other news. Junk like this is held in reserve, to be brought out as manufactured rage whenever an undesirable story gains traction in the news.

Did she send anything classified? Maybe something TOP SECRET//SCI//SAP like Hillary Clinton did? Did she order drone strikes from her phone, then have an aide attempt to destroy the evidence with a hammer? How about deleting tens of thousands of emails while under court order to preserve them?

No, no, and no. In other news, now buried:

The price of oil dropped by 25%.

Tijuana is pissed at the migrants bringing enough crime to somehow make the place worse. Many have been arrested.

North Korea destroyed 10 DMZ guard posts via explosions today. South Korea will destroy theirs next week via excavators.

A federal court just ordered Hillary Clinton to answer questions about her email scheme, thanks to Judicial Watch.

A district attorney has charged 9 people for an election fraud scheme in Los Angeles, in which hundreds of homeless people around Skid Row were given cigarettes and cash in exchange for signing fake names.

Florida's incoming republican governor DeSantis got 18% of the vote from black women. This suggests a huge change in the political landscape.

Judge Bernard Friedman ruled that the federal law against female genital mutilation is unconstitutional, causing cases to be thrown out. In one of the cases, the girl had to be drugged with Valium to make her compliant.

You can find all of these easily via a search engine, including actual court documents and a full history of oil prices. You might need to use something less censored than google; good results can be had with duckduckgo. Probably bing will work too. Another search approach is to use multiple foreign search engines; they are unlikely to censor the same stuff.

Judge dismisses female genital mutilation charges in historic case [freep.com]:

U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman concluded that "as despicable as this practice may be," Congress did not have the authority to pass the 22-year-old federal law that criminalizes female genital mutilation, and that FGM is for the states to regulate. FGM is banned worldwide and has been outlawed in more than 30 countries, though the U.S. statute had never been tested before this case.

"As laudable as the prohibition of a particular type of abuse of girls may be ... federalism concerns deprive Congress of the power to enact this statute," Friedman wrote in his 28-page opinion, noting: "Congress overstepped its bounds by legislating to prohibit FGM ... FGM is a 'local criminal activity' which, in keeping with long-standing tradition and our federal system of government, is for the states to regulate, not Congress."

Currently, 27 states have laws that criminalize female genital mutilation, including Michigan, whose FGM law is stiffer than the federal statute, punishable by up to 15 years in prison, compared with five under federal law. Michigan's FGM law was passed last year in the wake of the historic case and applies to both doctors who conduct the procedure, and parents who transport a child to have it done. The defendants in this case can't be retroactively charged under the new law.

US and Mexican officials stoke up nationalist backlash against immigrants [wsws.org]:

On Sunday, right-wing anti-immigrant protesters marched through Tijuana’s high-end Rio area, along the US-Mexico border, shouting “No illegals,” “No to the invasion” and “Mexico First!” Their target was the caravan of over 1,000 migrants which reached Tijuana over the weekend, in what is the final stop on their 2,700-mile-long journey from Honduras to San Diego.

“We want the caravan to go; they are invading us,” said Patricia Reyes, a 62-year-old protester, told reporters. “They should have come into Mexico correctly, legally, but they came in like animals.” Her sentiments, however, were not shared by all. “This is not what Tijuana is like! All migrants are welcome here!”, an elderly woman shouted at the protesters.

While the Trump administration is stoking up right-wing chauvinism on both sides of the border, there has been nothing but deafening silence from the Democrats....

The newly elected congresswoman and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, only once tweeted about the caravan, on October 26, and has since remained silent on the issue, even as the deployment of troops and attack on asylum rights continue unabated.

        The OP stated that:

Tijuana is pissed at the migrants bringing enough crime to somehow make the place worse. Many have been arrested.

Yet, the quotes, and even the article linked to do not refer to any arrests or crimes. Only that right wing Mexicans are protesting about the caravan being there in Tijuana.

The OP is bringing up relevant topics in the past week or two... but does not seem to care if his facts are correct.

Well the Korean guard posts are being "dismantled" not destroyed. I saw news about that from NPR. (and it was due to agreements between the Koreans; nothing that Trump was involved with.)

Evidently the governor now agrees with Trump, having decided to quietly adjust policy.

Forest rakes exist. They look like bulldozers with teeth. On hills and in areas where soil disturbance is really undesirable, humans do the work manually. It's not the insane expense that it might seem, because the pine needles can be sold.

Clearing firebreaks is useful too. Having regular small burns is useful. These too have been hindered by wacky regulations.

Oh, and about the DMZ: Who are you to contradict the South Korean president? He credits Trump. You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. Note that Trump can act from the Oval office, so this isn't something to measure by trips, although that happened too.

I overheard some woman on the bus in brooklyn lampooning Trump's comments on forest management. I didn't set her straight, because i wasn't party to the conversation, but she obviously knew nothing about forest fires or forestry.

I grew up in the Rockies; my mother dated a smokejumper for years. Forest management to minimize fire risk is a real, legitimate practice. It was policy in the 70's and 80's, and began to wane in the 90's. Environmentalists argued that controlled burns and other measures to reduce undergrowth were sops to Big Timber; forests should be left to their natural state without human intervention. Forest fires were part of that natural cycle, and studies were done to show that many species of trees need fire to germinate.

It became quite controversial when the "let it burn" policy was pursued in Yellowstone Park and something like 70% of the place went up in flames in one season.

However, the hands-off school of thought came to dominate federal forest management policy.

So, to me, Trump's comments hearken back to the earlier approach from 40 years ago.

Of course, none of that will come through media controlled by coastal media elites, who have zero understanding of land management or forestry or even their nearest nature preserve, which they have heard is nice but which they've never personally been to. They only want another round to fabricate another installment of Orange Man BAD.

“As laudable as the prohibition of a particular type of abuse of girls may be,” he wrote, prosecutors failed to show that the federal government had the authority to bring the charges, and he noted that regulating practices like this is essentially a state responsibility.

“Federalism concerns deprive Congress of the power to enact this statute,” Judge Friedman wrote. He added in the 28-page ruling, “Congress overstepped its bounds by legislating to prohibit FGM” because “FGM is a ‘local criminal activity’ which, in keeping with longstanding tradition and our federal system of government, is for the states to regulate, not Congress.”

“If there is an interstate market for FGM, why is this the first time the government has ever brought charges under this 1996 statute?” he wrote, adding “FGM cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be classified as an economic or commercial activity.”

So why isn't it banned in the state??? And fuck you over your fake outrage. It's the same reason why murder is almost exclusively a *state* crime and federal laws lack jurisdiction. And why feds can't prosecute most murders or the charges would have been thrown out.

The answer is that there is a dedicated base of fake users all over the net and a mix of idiots. The fakers have propped up the true morons making them feel legitimized, and thus you see a massive surge in stupidity.

The other aspect is the brainwashing done by the GOP. Their talk radio shows have sowed an insane number of lies over the last many decades and the post 9/11 atmosphere tipped conservatives over the edge and into believing just about anything that scares them.

All that aside, either this person is just posting the latest Facebook clickbait headlines or they are a shill stoking the red hot propaganda.

There are really only two options for dealing with stupid. First, ignore it and stupid comments just slide into oblivion. Two, mock it relentlessly until the idiots provide their sources. 9/10 times the sources are infowars, breitbart, or other similarly reputable outlets.

There is a third option, you can try and use logic, reason, and facts to argue against the stupid. This is not recommended on average since the shill will just reply with endless amounts of bullshit and make you waste time researching proper rebuttals. The idiot will rely on their emotional "gut feeling" to determine you're full of shit or part of some massive conspiracy. It is a noble approach, but in our new 4 hour news cycle there is a high probability you are wasting your time.

Personally I go for the noble approach first, then when I receive ignorant bullshit replies I just go straight into mockery. Gaaark may ride your ass, Buzzy boy will show his man-child side, and Runaway will make a fool of himself like John Wayne in a French Maid's outfit.
