Verizon takes aim at Tumblr's kneecaps, bans all adult content
Oath, the Verizon subsidiary that owns the Yahoo and AOL digital media brands, has announced that as of December 17, all adult content will be banned from the Tumblr blogging site. Any still or moving images displaying real-life human genitals or female nipples and any content—even drawn or computer-generated artwork—depicting any sexual acts will be prohibited.
Genitals and female nipples will only be permitted within the context of breastfeeding, childbirth, and in health-related subjects such as gender confirmation surgery. Written erotica will also remain on the site.
Nowadays, pornography represents a substantial element of Tumblr's content. A 2013 estimate said that around 11 percent of the site's 200,000 most-visited domains were porn, and some 22 percent of inbound links were from adult sites.

Yes, this event is yet another small demonstration of why centralized control and decision making is a bad idea. Even if they weren't corrupted, they're still too prone to making epically stupid and bad decisions that would never fly if subjected to even the most minimal sanity checks. We see that in US foreign affairs, and in many decisions in pretty much every nation that is under autocratic rule. There aren't very many real monarchies left, thanks to failure after failure having thoroughly discredited that system. And we see it in big corporations. Thanks to hubris, greed, and sheer stupidity on the part of US automakers and local government, the city of Detroit has declined to less than 1/3 its peak population. One of the biggest mistakes that's been repeated for centuries is blindly allowing offspring to inherit great responsibility and power, no questions asked, because thems the rules or customs.
Can only guess what Verizon's motive is. Throwing a bone to the prudes? But that's usually done in the run up to an election, not shortly after. Doesn't seem to be a money making move either. There doesn't seem to be any rational thought or motive behind this.

Yes. My mistake for not including a link.

That is the real solution to the current mess of faux social media sites.
Reddit *IS* just rebadged usenet with CSS themes.
