U.S., Supporting Mexico's Plan, Will Invest $5.8 Billion in Central America

The United States, joining an effort by Mexico, will commit to investing billions in Central America in hopes of ending the poverty, violence and drug-trafficking that are driving thousands of people in the region to undertake the difficult trek to the United States, the State Department announced on Tuesday.

Mexico's new president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, introduced what he called a "Marshall Plan" last week to address the root causes of Central American migration: a $30 billion initiative to invest in the region and welcome migrants into Mexico with visas, health care and employment.

On Tuesday, the Trump administration signaled its support for the plan, saying it was committing $5.8 billion in private and public investments in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. Much of that amount, however, was previously committed or contingent on the identification of "commercially viable projects."

Face it, the Bad Guys (tm) get their money from drugs, most of that money comes from us, errr, the US. In other words, those assholes on the other side of the tracks. Or next door, hard to tell nowdays.

I have to wonder, take the money away and how much violence would we see in Mexico (Tijuana is over 2k murdered this year). That caravan of migrants? The people that went 2,000 miles north were running from gangs fueled by drug money.

Then again, if we decriminalize drugs then the first agency to wither away would be the DEA, which would be a major win for society but a major loss for the government.

    DEA head in August: [iflscience.com]

DEA head Chuck Rosenberg told reporters Wednesday morning that “heroin is clearly more dangerous than marijuana.” According to The Huffington Post, Rosenberg was clarifying a previous statement he had made last week, saying marijuana is “probably not” as dangerous as heroin, though adding he was “not an expert.”

    What a bastard.

Lawmakers are starting to catch on, and the Keebler Elf has been exorcised from the White House. But sane solutions are not in style. And even if cannabis gets legalized federally, heroin, cocaine, and other drugs are going to stay just as illegal for many years to come.

Well, good grief, man, how else are all those law enforcement "drug warriors" going to have salary fundage for their phony-baloney jobs?

Nah, they just voted themselves a few extra day's Christmas vacation days. When they reconvene next year, they will vote themselves retroactive pay.

That's just how they play the game in Washington.

Just defund the DEA 50% over the next 5 years, there's your first $5B for a wall. Hand the ex-agents construction gear and let them mix concrete.

The migrants are blaming Whitey for their problems, and out of White guilt we should either give them money or allow them access into the country.

Sounds a lot like attempted blackmail, if you ask me.

So, we give them what they ask for. Pull out all Military presence from their countries in exchange for them shutting the fuck up. I bet you a case of beer that they will find some other excuse to whine about.
