Phys.org:

In 2003, scientists from NASA's Goddard Space Center made the first-ever detection of trace amounts of methane in Mars' atmosphere, a find which was confirmed a year later by the ESA's Mars Express orbiter. In December of 2014, the Curiosity rover detected a tenfold spike of methane at the base of the Gale Crater, and uncovered evidence that indicated that Mars has a seasonal methane cycle, where levels peak in the late northern summer.

The existence of methane gas on Mars has been long been held to be potential evidence for the existence of past or present life. So it was quite the downer last week (on Dec. 12th) when the science team behind one of the ESA's ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) spectrometers announced that they had found no traces of methane in Mars' atmosphere.

Maybe the Martians are hiding.

    It's all Phoenix666.
    That's bullshit.

People are trying to contribute to this site; treat them with respect, you'll only have some old boomer fart submitting stories about methane.

I was already planning on posting the submission, but complaining about it doesn't help and is off-topic.

Yes, it's unfortunate when a solid wall of Phoenix666 or my own submissions go up. I don't want that to be the case. You can ask martyb or Fnord666 why those were all posted, but I'm guessing it's because P666 subs are generally better, more science/tech related, and less political. When they are in a rush, they will gravitate towards those.

Not getting your sub posted ASAP is not the end of the world. Us deleting it is the end of the world.

The pipeline gets a little thin over the holidays, so i try to submit a bunch of stories up front to give the editors a hand. It's my way of trying to help out the community.

Phoenix666 has historically been a frequent contributor. It looked like he'd taken a break for a while, but this site depends on people like him. (Even if he may be a shill with a fabricated backstory about working in proximity of the Clintons... otoh who knows. His subs are usually good. Source: IANAEditor but I check the subs queue enough to get a feel for what the eds have to dig through. And, how else can I read Aristarchus submissions? I'll skim them for Ari's latest angle on blaming homosexual men for Trump, even though they are only 5% of the population, in an effort to deflect from the fact that 53% of white women voted for Trump.)

What would i be a shill for? Bad puns? Gratuitous references to geek culture?

It's understandable why you might disbelieve that i worked for Bill Clinton. When confronted with the yawning gulf of cataclysmic incompetence that a former insider says cuts through the heart of the government and global power elite, many prefer to reject that truth in favor of a more comforting explanation that the person telling them about it is a liar or a fantasist. That seems to still be so, incredibly, despite Trump laying that bare the last two years.

Is this supposed to be surprising? Did you see that thing where a congresswoman thinks putin invaded korea?
