Congress approves act that opens US government data to the public

Congress has passed a bill that could make it easier for you to access public data released by the government. The House approved the OPEN Government Data Act on Saturday, while all eyes were on the shutdown, as part of a larger bill to support evidence-based policymaking. It requires that federal agencies must publish any "non-sensitive" info in a "machine-readable" format (essentially in a way that's legible on your smartphone or laptop). The act also insists that agencies appoint a chief data officer to oversee all open data efforts. Having passed the Senate last Wednesday, the bill is next headed to the President's desk.

The US public already paid for the data to be gathered, analyzed, and reported; why shouldn't they be able to freely access it?

.@BarackObama [twitter.com] spent millions to try and hide his records, why? He was the least transparent President -- EVER -- and he ran on transparency. Why did Obama believe he shouldn't comply with record releases that his predecessors did of their own volition? Hiding something? This wonderful Bill is a great step toward undoing the damage Obama did to our Country.

By the way, it's a Paul Ryan number. Don't we love Paul? He's done a great job and we thank him for his service (congrats Nancy!). Even though, when the Access Hollywood Tape was "leaked," Paul didn't stand up for us. Where was Paul when that one came out? And it's part of Paul's Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act. His FEBP Act. Great idea, right? Paul always says, "oh, I don't know what to do, let me see the Evidence and I'll decide." Which is why the People of Wisconsin love him. Especially the Koch Brothers. So he made the FEBP. Which, it's not just Paul, not just our wonderful Republicans, it's very bipartisan. We love bipartisan. Paul in the House and Patty in the Senate. We've done bipartisan many times -- fabulous! And I look forward to signing that one. Like I've signed so many documents from our legislature -- more than any other President, some of whom served 2, 3 or even 4 terms. It's going to be a big, beautiful signature, believe me.

But, our Government is totally shut down. While Drugs & Terrorists PORE into our Country. And I had to cancel my Florida Vacation. My fabulous, and well deserved, trip to my Winter White House. Because the Democrats, whose votes we needed in the Senate, voted against Boarder Security and the Wall (Steel Slat Barrier) even though they knew it is DESPERATELY NEEDED. The Dems voted no. They didn't do what’s right for the American People. So we have a shutdown that will last for a very long time. Owned by our Democratic Party. 100%. Something that's going to hurt them, big time. People don’t want Open Boarders and Crime!
