The Trump administration EPA says regulations to reduce power plant emissions of mercury and other hazardous air pollutants are too costly and should no longer be considered legally "appropriate and necessary."

In another proposed reversal of an Obama-era standard, the Environmental Protection Agency Friday said limiting mercury and other toxic emissions from coal- and oil-fired power plants is not cost-effective and should not be considered "appropriate and necessary."

The EPA says it is keeping the 2012 restrictions in place for now, in large part because utilities have already spent billions to comply with them. But environmental groups worry the move is a step toward repealing the limits and could make it harder to impose other regulations in the future.

In a statement, the EPA said it is "providing regulatory certainty by transparently and accurately taking account of both costs and benefits."

The National Mining Association welcomed the move, calling the mercury limits "punitive" and "massively unbalanced."

"Barack Obama believes in clean Kentucky coal." The OBAMA2008 Campaign.

"Clean Coal Technology is something that can make America Energy Independent." Obama campaigning in 2008. youtu.be/GehK7Q_QxPc [youtu.be]

If he believed in Clean Coal, why did he tell so many of our Electric Companies, "oh, put in the Scrubber"? Trying to clean something that's already clean. They call it the Scrubber and it's very expensive. Hundreds of millions of dollars. And that's going on the electric bills. On yours and on mine. Who can pay that, right? It's really done a number on our Economy, folks.

And the regulation has been absolutely killing our miners. Sago Mine & Upper Big Branch, they had a couple of accidents. And horrendous regulations came down after that. Wilbur Ross, my Commerce Secretary, got hit really hard by those. Because he was a big investor in the Sago Mine. He invested in that one because he truly believes in Clean Coal. But, he had to sell after those horrible regulations came down -- sad!

And Bob Murray -- Murray Energy -- came to us. Saying, "look, this is a political power grab. They're grab, grab, grabbing our Power Grid. Trying to change our Country. Evil!"

And it's so true. You go to the Doctor, there's mercury everywhere. You get the temperature check, it's mercury in the thermometer. And that goes right in your mouth. Or possibly, in your butt. Which they call Rectal. Otherwise known as Anal. Believe me, the Doctor wouldn't do Anal to you if it wasn't safe. Right?

I promised to bring back our magnificent Coal Industry. It's coming back faster than anyone thought possible. And frankly, even I didn't think it could come back this fast. It's bringing millions of jobs. And we just saw, they say the biggest jump in Points in one day on our stock markets, in all of our stock markets. Ever. And it's not the biggest in percent. But it's a record. And we're setting so many records in unemployment. The forgotten people are forgotten no more. African-American unemployment stands at the lowest rate in the history of our records. And Hispanic-American unemployment has also reached the lowest levels in history. Overall unemployment, lowest in 17 years. We're making tremendous progress on transgender unemployment. So much of that is powered by Beautiful Clean Coal. By our Corporate Tax Cut -- the biggest in the history of the World. And by cutting burdensome regulations. I promised I'd tear up 2 old regulations for every 1 new one. But, we've actually done much better than that, it's incredible. I think it's like 20 to 1. I have to say "I think" or they'll give me a Pinocchio. And we don't like Pinocchios. America First!!

"Clean" coal is simply coal that isn't quite as filthy as normal coal, but it's still filthy but easier to clean the smoke. Mostly, it means "low-sulfur". Burning sufhur really stinks.
