The Trump administration EPA says regulations to reduce power plant emissions of mercury and other hazardous air pollutants are too costly and should no longer be considered legally "appropriate and necessary."

In another proposed reversal of an Obama-era standard, the Environmental Protection Agency Friday said limiting mercury and other toxic emissions from coal- and oil-fired power plants is not cost-effective and should not be considered "appropriate and necessary."

The EPA says it is keeping the 2012 restrictions in place for now, in large part because utilities have already spent billions to comply with them. But environmental groups worry the move is a step toward repealing the limits and could make it harder to impose other regulations in the future.

In a statement, the EPA said it is "providing regulatory certainty by transparently and accurately taking account of both costs and benefits."

The National Mining Association welcomed the move, calling the mercury limits "punitive" and "massively unbalanced."

What I hear you saying is: "We can't examine Trump's proposals because he's a BAD MAN. There's no point in thinking or debating about anything that Trump wants to do." But, that's politics, and has nothing to do with science, finance, jobs, or much of anything.

There's no point in evaluating what Trump is proposing. If he can't be bothered to evaluate it, then why should we?

In this case, it's a stupid move that isn't supported by industry because they've already installed or paid for the necessary equipment to meet the standards. Pulling out now means that they're going to be stuck either using the equipment or explaining why they wasted all the money on stuff they're not using.

Trump doesn't do any sort of research on any of what he does. We know that border walls aren't effective and we know that most illegal immigrants come to the US via airplane on legitimate visas. We also know that tax breaks for the wealthy don't trickle down and that we can't just start random trade wards with no thought as to how they'll unfold.

The President isn't just a bad man, he's got obvious brain problems. I'm amazed that he can wipe his own backside.

Even when he does the right thing, like pulling our troops out of Syria and Afghanistan, he fucks that up by not thinking the process through. The Secretary of Defense and our allies should have known about it ahead of time.

You know nothing of the sort. Who told you all of that nonsense?

Why don't you look up Tuscon, Arizona. I watched a video recently, in which the coroner of the county specifically stated that they average one dead person per day, just in that county. If roughly 300 people die in that area each year, due to the heavy traffic, how many do you think pass through the area without dying? Some are later apprehended, but far more make it into the US, and move on to areas with more employment.

Are you making that shit up, or you're just parroting what some talking head told you?

Like a lock on your door, the wall won't stop illegal aliens coming in - but it will separate the most determined law breakers from the opportunists.

      this is really clever!
without filtering the mercury out, there will be shortage of mercury
for thermometers and thus the main tool to measure global warming will
become rare and only obtainable to rich people burning more coal!

President and Mrs. Obama built/has a ten foot Wall around their D.C. mansion/compound. I agree, totally necessary for their safety and security. The U. S. needs the same thing, slightly larger version!
