Facebook made a $300 million pledge to help journalists — just like Google did last year

Facebook says it is going to spend $300 million over the next three years to support journalism.

Does that sound familiar?

Here's why: Ten months ago, Google said it was going to spend $300 million over three years to support journalism.

Facebook says it's just a coincidence that it landed on the same dollar amount that its primary competitor landed on last year. But I'm not complaining. In part because I want Google and Facebook to spend money supporting journalism. And also because it means I don't have to rewrite this piece, from March 2018: "Google and Facebook can't help publishers because they're built to defeat publishers."

I'm pretty sure Facebook won't take the risk of supporting any journalism. This will be 3 million dollars worth of fake news, and the market for that is already glutted. So thanks, but no thanks.

To be fair, some will go towards political advocacy and at least some outright propaganda as well in addition to Gawker/Enquirer level stuff.
An ever so slightly cynical read might be: Facebook and Google pledge 600 million* towards political campaign funding disguised as news. * 600 million for placement on their own sites, based on ad rates needed for similar placement

Zuck is one of the smarter Jews out there. He can reinstate Alex Jones, because if you were a "crackpot conspiracy theorist" then you would be so crazy and stupid that nobody would believe you, right? And if people were so crazy as to allow you views because a few others would buy your "anti-Fluoride sperm increasers," right? Come on now, why would you disregard a large readership, from a businessman's perspective, simply because that readership were "conspiracy theorists?"

Come on, Zuck: you wouldn't shitcan a large advertising demographic of conspiracy theorists whose beliefs could not possible have any effect on reality? Why would you do that? Conspiracy theorists are nothing but crackpots.

He's one of the very-most intelligent people I have ever met in my entire life.

But he is paranoid as all get-out.

Jews are not intelligent as much as they are good businessmen with a knack for shorter-term gains. I wouldn't call him "paranoid" but I would call him intelligent in the short-term in that he can "get-out."

He can escape the political whirlwind and "get-out" with political moderation to avoid getting assfucked if the political tides change rapidly in the short-term.
