Innovation abounds in our modern society with brave souls venturing forth to squeeze every last use of existing hardware. A recent innovation is using a dishwasher to cook food:

The dishwasher is every home cook's best friend after dinner is served. But did you know you can use it to prepare that dinner as well?

[...] There are entire YouTube channels dedicated to imparting the wisdom of dishwasher cooking, there was even a Mythbusters episode dedicated to it.

[...] An experiment, conducted this month by Australian consumer advocacy group Choice, looked into this bizarre phenomenon to determine whether or not it was safe to cook stuff in your dishwasher.

The company's white goods tester whipped up a meal of honey soy salmon, coconut rice, an Asian style spinach and mushrooms, and a darling little custard and fruit compote.

The verdict? "Delicious!"

The article provides practical considerations of how to prepare food for cooking in the dishwasher as well as what foods are or are not good candidates.

Would it be OK were I to use Tide Pods instead of regular dishwasher detergent?

I've actually done this. Not on purpose, but I needed laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent at the same time. Both were in bags, somehow I mixed them up putting them away.

When I put the pod in the dishwasher I noticed it seemed large, but the dishes came out fine so I was ok. Until I went to do a load of laundry......

    Dear Mods

I was not going for +1 funny, I was expecting +1 stupid.

That said, I've never tried to cook dinner while washing my dishes. To me they are diametric opposets. "Is the dishwasher full?" If no, cook something. Goto 1, else 2: run the dishwasher.

    Sincerely

I got a hot tub suite for my girlfriend and I once, and I thought some bubble bath with be romantic, so I filled it up, dumped some in, and went to pick her up from work (with flowers)

When we got back to the room the soap bubbles were just beginning to come out from under the door into the hallway:)

Helluva fun night at the AmericInn suites!
