"The European Commission has received initial reports by Google, Facebook and Twitter on their efforts to fight fake news and offered the trio a pat on the back and an exhortation to work harder — or else." forbes.com/sites/jillgoldsmith/2019/01/29/eu-prods-facebook-google-twitter-in-fight-against-fake-news/

The three Internet giants along with browser company Mozilla and trade associations representing the advertising industry signed a Code of Practice on Disinformation last fall agreeing to take measures against fake news as a crucial European election cycle gets underway.

"There has been some progress, notably in removing fake accounts and limiting the visibility of sites that promote disinformation. However, additional action is needed to ensure full transparency of political ads by the start of the campaign for the European elections in all EU Member States," the organization said in a statement.

Monthly reports will follow from February through May. In a year, at the end of 2019, the Commission will conduct a comprehensive assessment and "should the results prove unsatisfactory ... may propose further actions, including of a regulatory nature."

laws are missing. and like pretty much everything if no blood was shed, it will not hold.
thus a big disaster will have to happen before cutting laws are invented?
    -
not sure how much "shit" will need to go down the drain before a tiny solution of transistors in a bunch spanning the globe with nothing in between but light will take : )
    -
my guess is that "the first law" should be that you cannot lie or bend the truth ... but that is difficult because technology is so difficult and everything (including myself) is calling for simplifying the excessive explanation of how tech works. thus we have on one side: simple bull shit and on the other side: technical bullshit.
and in between the endless slurping of mostly useless data of where superman hides his fortress of solitude and wolverine gets medication.
    -
the problem is that no one can monopolize the internet because it would incure the wrath of burocrazy. the wrath of burocrazy would come down like a hammer as seen with mobile phone networks (pay for monopolized air-bandwidth in the gazillion dollar).
    -
without a internet "to go to" (and the required increase of data consumption) mobile phone networks would be stagnant (and research and advertisement would go towards whos network can make sounds, voices sound more clear, but NOOooo it's all about who can push more "error-corrected" data thru the dodgy over-the-air pipes).
    -
so again, the first law should be that the monster(big) nucleasos websites (dare a say cancerous) websites(!) like ... what is mentioned above.. should be governemnt-burocrazy steam-rolled for /\undershore/\LYING/\underscore/\!

the user agreement (not end-luser) agreement should tell them EXACTLY what can be DONE with the data they are providing! like EVERYTHING. every each POSSIBILITY and if they invent a new service and it wasn't revealed in the initial user agreement .. then it was a LIE!. HAMMER DoWn!

short of all this, we have to assume that there exists a world that can exist without a internet and it creates real people that sit in some law office to extract money and satisfy their human sense of superiority .. or sumething : )
