The supposed deleted text:

The Sun is the primary forcing of Earth's climate system. Sunlight warms our world. Sunlight drives atmospheric and oceanic circulation patterns. Sunlight powers the process of photosynthesis that plants need to grow. Sunlight causes convection which carries warmth and water vapor up into the sky where clouds form and bring rain. In short, the Sun drives almost every aspect of our world's climate system and makes possible life as we know it.

Earth's orbit around and orientation toward the Sun change over spans of many thousands of years. In turn, these changing "orbital mechanics" force climate to change because they change where and how much sunlight reaches Earth. (Please see for more details.) Thus, changing Earth's exposure to sunlight forces climate to change. According to scientists' models of Earth's orbit and orientation toward the Sun indicate that our world should be just beginning to enter a new period of cooling — perhaps the next ice age.

However, a new force for change has arisen: humans. After the industrial revolution, humans introduced increasing amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and changed the surface of the landscape to an extent great enough to influence climate on local and global scales. By driving up carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere (by about 30 percent), humans have increased its capacity to trap warmth near the surface.

Other important forcings of Earth's climate system include such "variables" as clouds, airborne particulate matter, and surface brightness. Each of these varying features of Earth's environment has the capacity to exceed the warming influence of greenhouse gases and cause our world to cool. For example, increased cloudiness would give more shade to the surface while reflecting more sunlight back to space. Increased airborne particles (or "aerosols") would scatter and reflect more sunlight back to space, thereby cooling the surface. Major volcanic eruptions (such as that of Mt. Pinatubo in 1992) can inject so much aerosol into the atmosphere that, as it spreads around the globe, it reduces sunlight and cause Earth to cool. Likewise, increasing the surface area of highly reflective surface types, such as ice sheets, reflects greater amounts of sunlight back to space and causes Earth to cool.

Scientists are using NASA satellites to monitor all of the aforementioned forcings of Earth's climate system to better understand how they are changing over time, and how any changes in them affect climate.

The fact that it is *warming instead* should be cause for alarm. It is a huge piece of *luck* that the worst greenhouse effect will come when an ice age was scheduled to happen.

Didn't we just talk about statistics and how its best to only believe the one's we've faked ourselves? .. ok, maybe not, but lets go easy on equating facts with truth or using the soppy pbs stories as authoritative, ok?

Meanwhile, there's this guy Ben who does daily science and space weather reviews. watch here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHSoxioQtwZeQaRnO5_9AJB2RmevUpuPT [youtube.com] he's got many years of reading and reporting under his belt and while you may reflexively think he's a crackpot because he's not saying exactly what they say on pbs, you might still get a lot out of his playlists: https://www.youtube.com/user/Suspicious0bservers/playlists [youtube.com] see the 5th list for the weather info.

if you do write him of as a crackpot 'because electricity', check his twitter too https://twitter.com/TheRealS0s [twitter.com] -- there he's doing daily updates on his earthquake foreasts - which are statistically the best in the world.

Exactly what I came here to say. The evidence for this goes back to the early 70s when there were a lot of claims around (some with more evidence than others, and some now debunked) that the Earth's orbit and solar cycle *should* be pushing us towards another fairly brief natural cooling spell, which is also what the supposedly deleted text is basically saying. There is absolutely nothing in there that is contentious to anyone who knows the history of climate science not looking to spin it into something that doesn't exist, so even if it the page did exist and was deleted, it's hardly going to be because of some kind of conspiracy.

If anything, that it (apparently) hasn't happened most likely means that either the research behind the projected cooling was wrong, in which case those that don't subscribe to climate change get to claim the scientists don't know what they are doing at the expense of losing an anti-warming argument. Alternatively, the research was correct and something else with a stronger influence - essentially AGW - has overridden it, in which case we've either been given a stay of execution or we're going to be completely hosed once we start to come out of the cooling spell and it starts reinforcing the warming trend. If this is the work of some anti-climate change shill I'm struggling to see what they're hoping to get out it except wasting time on more preaching to the choir.

I'd disagree with the "fairly brief" portion of the comment. Perhaps brief on the geological scale of timing, but that's hardly brief on the scale of evolutionary time, much less of the lifespan of a civilization. And extremely much less on the human scale.

There's another possibility: that the cooling will hold off the warming long enough for us to turn it around.

Of course, the counterweight to that will be "oh it wasn't really a problem", but still, it's a potential path.

a square mile of jungle can feed MUCH more living beings, than a square mile of glacier.

Yes, the fact that this may save lives is a cause for alarm, pedantic dumbass.
