from the does-altered-carbon-make-altered-diamonds? dept.

Considering that the premise of Altered Carbon is about people who can change into different bodies called "sleeves," it makes sense that some of the characters from season 1 will have new faces.

Anthony Mackie -- best known for his role as Sam Wilson/Falcon in Captain America: Civil War and the Avengers movies -- will play the lead character, mercenary Takeshi Kovacs. Actor Joel Kinnaman originally played the character in season 1.

Simone Missick -- who played Detective Misty Knight in the Netflix Marvel shows The Defenders, Luke Cage and Iron Fist -- joins as the character Trepp.

Dina Shihabi, who played Neda Kazemi in Daredevil, is a new character named Dig 301.

Will the erstwhile Marvel actors augment the show, or drag it down?

    Its the three S's.

    STORY!
    STORY!!
    STORY!!!

If the story sucks, maybe an actor will cover is little to defect, enough to get someone to watch it once. But to keep watching it is another story.

    Take:
B5 - great idea, good long term arc, but a given story per week, can just suck. But over all watch able. Lasted 5yrs
BG (reboot) - first 2 seasons were good tight stories and arcs... was just another soap opera. Lasted 4yrs
SG-1 - was just ampy and knew it! The inside jokes of themselves, gave it familiar feel, made you part of the family. 8yrs +2 (reboot in place?)
BlueBloods - you care about the family and interactions, again you are part of the family. 9yrs and going
NCIS - 16yrs, do I name to say more.

Notice, no actor names, it is the feel and "family" that make them great. Hence the STORY!

Now: DD, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Punisher & The Defenders. Iron Fist was flat, the worst of bunch, but you rooted for the secondary characters. Jessica Jones is a hot mess, because the first season was all over the place about psyho-triller but in the end it tied together and left with broken hero. Again these were stories and needed.

    Some counter:
Firefly - another space western - good stories, but channel did not believe in it. 1/2 season
Caprica - was out there great start but was bond by BG (reboot), 1 season

To me it was mostly the antagonists that decided if a season was good or not:
JJ: Killgrave was good, season two... eh... there was something with her mom and a doctor... the most fun episode was the one with ... killgrave in it.
LC: IMHO second season was slightly better than the first one, both seasons keep up.
IF: First season was doable... next season... Davos this, Davos that... I don't care. Should have picked another, antagonist.
DD: Long fighting scene takes were fun, good cast, but they should shelved Fisk for a season or two. Bullseye was a good antagonist though.
Defenders: Enjoyable, maybe because there were not too many episodes that needed to be filled.
The Punisher: The story draaaaaags (both seasons).... fighting scenes with Pilgrim were good... Russo's is Frank's Davos.

But... too bad they cancelled most of the series.
