We can't know for sure how often individuals actually have sex. Some people may incorrectly report their sexual frequency, either by mistake or on purpose. But the national estimates data are based on representative samples, so they're a useful guide.

Indeed, extremely bad writing on the part of TFA's authors. The Australian study reports in the first survey (2001-2002) that people in Australia had sex about 1.8 times per week on average, and in the second survey (2012-2013) the result was about 1.4 times per week on average.
So TFA's authors went "1.4 times 52 is approximately 1.8 times 52 minus twenty-ish", and then went on to write "Aussies have sex about 20 times fewer in 2013 than a decade before".

Just one question, I assume this is sex with other people? Otherwise, it can be as high as several times a day for some.
