Tips for committing suicide are appearing in children's cartoons on YouTube and the YouTube Kids app.

https://arstechnica.com/science/2019/02/youtube-kids-cartoons-include-tips-for-committing-suicide-docs-warn/

YouTube Kids is theoretically a curated collection of videos that are safe for kids. Apparently, someone forgot to tell YouTube/Google that. Sure, YouTube probably has some butt covering clause in their EULA. That doesn't excuse such an oversight, though. It's very easy to see overworked, stressed parents, giving their kids access to YouTube/YouTube Kids. Kids have enough to deal with, without having to deal with grown-ups twisted thoughts. This seems more like insidious minds at work to me. What do you think?

It may be funny for appropriate audiences. Just as some things in South Park are funny while simultaneously wildly inappropriate or otherwise objectionable.

    objectionable *sigh* Please, stop...

Freedom of expression outside your private LAN shall not be infringed. As long as Google cannot deprive you of internet service, they can do what they want also. These things only become dangerous when your service provider interferes with the signal. That is censorship, and needs to be corrected through common carrier regulations. Absent of that, only ad hoc networking can protect our right to unfettered communications.

This is a silly story that belongs in the "Kitten up a tree" section of the local gazette, serving as a reminder not to fill your mouth with marbles, one will get stuck in your throat. OMG! Janet flashed her titties!

The issue is that it was ever in an "approved for Kids" section of YouTube. It's entirely inappropriate to push that kind of thing onto kids.

Oh Christ! It slipped through the machine. They're still testing the filters. Fucken lighten up!

And another thing! Having a kids section on youtube is stupid. Let them watch Netflix or A&E!

You may very well be right, about having a kids section on YouTube being a stupid idea. If they're still testing the filters, then they should have 4 giant letters "BETA". Otherwise, seriously screwed up content shouldn't automatically be added to Kids mode.

Well, it really is none of your business. Just stay away from the Kids section. If they tell you it's safe, don't believe them. Problem solved.

          It's not a filter.

YouTube promised that this children's section would be Curated.

Now we see obviously that it is not curated.

This could have the very bad effect of causing a tiny little crack that leads to bigger cracks. OMG some people might begin to have the faintest doubts that google is not evil.

I would be appalled by any adult I caught doing such a thing but it was probably put there by a giggling group of little boys. Laughing so hard that they cry and snot comes out of their noses as they imagine.... not a kid killing himself but "some old faggot like my dad having a fit"
