CNet:

Review site Rotten Tomatoes is instituting some changes, leading many to believe it's responding to the recent controversy over the site's Captain Marvel page. But Paul Yanover, president of Fandango, which owns the site, told CNET that's not the whole story.

In case you were snapped away by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, and thus missed the recent controversy, here's a recap. Captain Marvel doesn't come out until March 8, but users were already leaving negative comments about the film on Rotten Tomatoes, a process dubbed "review bombing." Many recent comments seemed to come from those who are angry at star Brie Larson.

The movie review site has removed users' ability to leave reviews or to indicate they are not interested in seeing a film [EDIT: before it comes out].

Trailers and many details about the movie have been released. Captain Marvel has already been called more powerful than Thanos [wegotthiscovered.com] and the character is confirmed to appear in the fourth Avengers movie. Yes, there are certainly reasons to criticize the movie, even before you reach Brie Larson's hateful comments, which ought to be known to people who are considering seeing the movie.

This explains a lot. I watched that movie. It felt very similar to black lives matter The Movie panther where shoving ideology down the throat of the audience is more important than the story. The new she-ra too is in that boat.

Nobody (and this includes you) is entitled to entertainment that s/he would enjoy, much less an entertainment that should involve specific performers.

How that translates into: "Any/everybody just crawl in a hole and die" is beyond me.

But, yeah, I've seen my share of idiocy on this Earth, one additional bit doesn't surprise me.

Well, I don't think you understand the situation.

The target audience of this universe is, and has been, and WILL be, and by vast majority, comprised of white males. It's thanks to them they can make this movie.

Now they take this white male product and turn it into a "SJW PC races don't exist but white males are fucking shit and women are better at man things of course" propaganda. Then they see how the 90% of their audience say "ok, you shit on us and ruin what we like, so fuck you" and react censoring the comments and shitting even more on their real audience while calling them masclist privileged trolls.

Yeah, really, fuck you. Good luck with the movie and comic sales, we are all awaiting for them to be honest.

    > Brie Larson's hateful comments, which ought to be known to people who are considering seeing the movie.

Unless the people involved are accused of, or encourage, criminal acts, I don't care. I want to see a movie, and the carpenters or the sound designers might be total assholes, the costume designer a prostitute, and the limo driver a slumlord ... There are too many problems out there to try to find the perfect asshole-free entertainment.

I won't see that one in the theater, purely out of superhero fatigue (that excludes Deadpool or Incredibles, which are a refreshing take on the genre, when Marvel origin stories are dull and repetitive, and DC's horrendous). Not sure whether I'll see the next Avengers given how the previous one assumed that you had seen every Marvel movie, and didn't bother to bring people like me up to date...

Of course. The carpenters, limo drivers, and caterers are on the same level as the lead actress doing the PR tour for the film. Makes sense.

If you want to go out and have a good time seeing the movie, that's fine. But maybe piracy is a better option. Or see something else since you are already feeling the fatigue in your bones.

Trailers and many details about the movie have been released.

Is there a spot on Rotten Tomatoes for reviewing trailers (you know, as opposed to actual movie reviews)? Or a web site that provides that? If so, that's the place to go.

If not, well hey, there's an opportunity for you. You could start one!

No thanks. I may actually waste what little money I have being fooled.

A perfect Example was the District 9 trailer. They make it all mysterious, showing the ghetto and the alien ship hovering, but they never show the aliens. You think, " Whoa, this is so cool and mysterious, I bet it will be awesome! "

Then you spend the money and once you see what the aliens look like you don't know whether to laugh or cry at the next 2 hours you're going to waste on a preachy Dick-and-Jane movie with Dr. Seuss-tier aliens.

See, now that's exactly the point. I really liked District 9. If I'd seen any crap about the movie first, I might not have seen it.

All the more reason to prevent so-called "reviews" prior to release.

But... again, that's the point. If someone posts a review before the movie comes out, bitching about [insert special butterfly triggers here], or just rah-rahing without any real knowledge of what was in the movie, they might have given you the wrong idea and sent you there anyway.

Look, I'm not arguing against movie reviews. Not at all. But reviews before a film comes out? Come on. That's unreasonable.
