A lawsuit filed against Google by consumers who claimed the search engine's photo sharing and storage service violated their privacy was dismissed on Saturday by a U.S. judge who cited a lack of "concrete injuries."

U.S. District Judge Edmond Chang in Chicago granted a Google motion for summary judgment, saying the court lacked "subject matter jurisdiction because plaintiffs have not suffered concrete injuries."

The suit, filed in March 2016, alleged Alphabet Inc's Google violated Illinois state law by collecting and storing biometric data from people's photographs using facial recognition software without their permission through its Google Photos service.

[...] Google had argued in court documents that the plaintiffs were not entitled to money or injunctive relief because they had suffered no harm. The case is Rivera v Google, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, No. 16-02714.

Google has a very smart "app." It has pictures of paintings from all over the world (also drawings) -- paintings by all the most famous artists, for which the best museums paid BIG MONEY. You put in your Face picture. And it shows you the picture of you by an artist, how you'll look when an artist does it. It's not an artist. And, it's not a picture of you. But it picks the closest Art where it looks like you were posing. So incredible. And it's absolutely free. But, unfortunately you can only use it in 48 states. Texas, Illinois you can't use it there. Because of something called "consent." Those two states said, "oh, you can't do the Facial on somebody without 'consent'!" And they don't get "consent" with the app. They just grab, grab, grab. How can they get "consent" when they don't know what type of Facial they'll want to do with those pictures in 10, 20 years when folks, possibly, have gotten a new cell phone and maybe didn't put the "app" on it? We left that one up to the states and it's becoming a problem. We have no law about Facial. Federally, we have nothing there. And maybe we need a law to take care of those 2 states. And that one, possibly, can be very simple. And just say, "you can do anything." I always say, less regulations. And this looks like more. But, actually it's less. For folks in Texas & Illinois it's less. Because it cancels out the state law!!!!

Can we impeach the Moderators for being incredibly DUMB? The Moderator says, Off Topic. Because the Moderator didn't read the story. Or didn't read my tweet. The topic is the very BAD LAW in Illinois about Facial. Where, fortunately Judge Chang has a little COMMON SENSE, he made a smart decision. Great job! And Texas has the same kind of law. The other states are fine. But we have two states that are a problem. And they're keeping people from having the fantastic Google Arts & Culture "app." You give Google youre picture, you don't give them the "consent" to do the Facial on you "forever." But, they get to do it -- in the 48 great states. And Google gives you a picture of a magnificent painting (could be drawing) that, it's not you but it looks a lot like you. Very fair!
