Oregon Wineries Come Together To Save Grapes Rejected For Smoke Taint

Grape growers in southern Oregon thought they had already weathered one of the biggest challenges of the 2018 season — the Klondike Fire, which burned over 175,000 acres in July.

But on Sept. 22, they faced even more devastating news: Copper Cane Wines and Provisions, a Calif.-based winery that contracts with numerous growers in the region, canceled grape orders mere days before harvest was supposed to start, citing smoke taint.

"We were shocked," says grower Leon Pyle. "We knew that we had a lot of smoke, but it wasn't worse than the previous year, and the previous year's wine turned out just fine."

[...] Currently, research focuses on guaiacol and 4-methylguaiacol — chemical compounds produced by fires — when assessing taint, but there are no set standards to determine what constitutes acceptable levels.

The secret is to fly to Cancun then catch the boat to Cuba.
Return from Cuba to Cancun with real Cuban cigars and an appreciation of Cuban culture.

Then realize that the USA is stupid for keeping this embargo going for literally no reason other than a bunch of rich Miami socialites want hereditary assets and titles returned from a seizure that happened so long ago most of them weren't even born yet.

Finally, use the money you saved in taxes from expatriating yourself, to buy a house on the beach in Cancun.

A gringo quality home (i.e. built to american standards with good quality materials) on the beach in Cancun will set you back about $150k USD. That would be a home not a condo. When I first moved here I was paying $900 per month rent for my 3bd house on the beach, only to find out I was being gringo priced because the going rental rates for my neighbors (with houses easily the equal of mine) were in the $300 - $500 range. You can still rent for less than $700.

This process only really works if you are retired or can work remotely.
