Chromebook popularity could prompt another round of Intel CPU shortages

Supplies of Intel's CPUs, especially at the entry-level of the market, could worsen over the next few months according to a new report, which cites a popular period for Chromebook purchases as the reason behind the potential shortfall. This could lead to price rises and availability issues in 2019, with supply potentially only catching up with demand towards the end of the year.

Intel has experienced shortages of its most popular CPUs since August 2018, with low numbers of Core i5, Pentium, and Atom CPUs having the greatest impact on availability of devices. HP, Lenovo, and Dell, among other major suppliers, were all affected, as DigiTimes reports. Those shortages have continued throughout 2019 so far, with the lack of Core i5 options leading to greater demand for Intel's own Core i3 chips, and some AMD alternatives.

[...] All of these shortages involve Intel's 14nm CPUs, rather than its planned 10nm chip lines which could make their debut toward the end of the year. To help counter the supply issues it's facing with the older 14nm standard, Intel is set to bring new fabrication capacity online at the end of the summer, potentially increasing its chip production capabilities by up to 25 percent. That should be enough to solve the supply issues, but how long it will take to catch up with demand is still up in the air.

They said the 20th Century was the American Century. They were right. They said our Economy was dieing. They were right. They're right no more. Our economy is ROARING. Like it hasn't roared in 90 years. And cyber is a big part of that, cyber is very hot right now. And we can say that one is selling like hotcakes. Intel, A.M.D., also known as American Micro -- very very hot stuff. Because everything is full of cyber now. You make a phone call, your phone's full of cyber. Go to the malt shop, they ring you up with cyber. Go to a movie, there's no film, they put in a digital screen. Fly an airplane, where's the lever? Airplane used to have a lever. You'd push it forward, wings go up. Pull it back, wings go down. You push, you pull. Wings go up & down, you're flying. Easy. Now, no lever. They took out the lever, took out the buttons & dials. Put in Touch Screen. You swipe up, you swipe down. And the airplane decides, does it want to do what you just told it. Will it tell you "no." Or will you have to do the Reboot, so many times they tell you to do that one -- cyber. And everything that was built without cyber is getting replaced with the digital version. Big money maker for us. But it's not just cyber. Our Clean Coal Industry is competitive again. Oil -- we're exporting more oil than we import, something nobody thought could happen. Farm, I have asked China to immediately remove all Tariffs on our agricultural products (including beef, pork, etc.) based on the fact that we are moving along nicely with Trade discussions. And I did not increase their second traunch of Tariffs to 25% on March 1st. This is very important for our great farmers -- and me!

Our Economy is now fireing on all 3 cylinders. Cyber, Fuel & Farm. For the first time in a long time we're moving very strongly against Socialism. And it's looking like a New American Century. They said it couldn't hapen. They were WRONG!!! whitehouse.gov/articles/2018-banner-year-u-s-economy [whitehouse.gov]

Good thing you've got Barron to help you with the cyber. IF #CrookedHillary had such a smart child maybe she wouldn't have had so many email problems.
