Gunmen have attacked a convoy of trucks carrying uranium fuel to a nuclear power plant near the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, police say.

The convoy came under attack as it drove past a community controlled by drug traffickers in Angra dos Reis, a tourist city 145km (90 miles) from Rio.

Police escorting the convoy responded and a shootout followed. No-one was injured or detained.

The convoy reached the Angra 2 plant safely 20 minutes after the attack.

The attack in the Rio-Santos highway is the latest in a series of violent incidents in an area popular with visitors.

In Brazil, all firearms are required to be registered with the minimum age for gun ownership being 25.[1] It is generally illegal to carry a gun outside a residence, and a special permit granting the right to do so is granted to certain groups, such as law enforcement officers.[2] To legally own a gun, an owner must hold a gun license, which costs R$1000,[2] and pay a fee every three years to register the gun, currently at R$85.[3] Registration can be done online or in person with the Federal Police.[4]

Yes, of course. Broken fingernails must be treated immediately, or they may turn into broken fingers, or worse.

Sometimes, I believe that standard police practice requires that an officer be treated for imaginary injuries. If there is no injury, then there was no crime, or some such nonsense. Even if the individual cops all agree that there were no injuries, a sergeant can order a junior officer to "have that looked at".

I was watching Live PD and a cop got hit in the face by some guy. He said he was fine but every other officer who arrived on the scene came up to him one by one and asked if needed to get it looked at. It was kind of weird that they wouldn't let it alone.

Could also be a social dominance thing. There can be a subtle insult implied by asking if someone is OK, and it may be seen as a sign of weakness to say "actually; no; I'm not OK". It is frenemy [wikipedia.org] kind of behaviour.

Maybe, but if you saw it that didn't seem to be what was going on.

it's more likely because they see themselves as above "civilians", so if some pitiful slave actually gets a lick in, it freaks them all out. they'll do anything to keep your slave blood off of them too. well past legitimate concerns of disease transmission.
