CNet:

I thought the precautions would reduce how much data Facebook gathered about me. Turns out, I was wasting my time.

Even when your account is deactivated, the social network continues collecting data about your online activities. All that data gets sent back to Facebook and is tied to your account while it's in this state of limbo. It's as if you'd changed nothing.

Facebook says it only removes all of your data if you permanently delete your account. Deactivating isn't as extreme, the company says, and the social network continues collecting your data in case you change your mind and want to return to your profile. Facebook expects deactivated users to return and wants to continue serving them ads relevant to their new interests.

In Soviet America, Facebook will deactivate you?

How is this surprising? I just bought some plane tickets on spirit's website and saw it connected to facebook for some reason.

Also, I drove by 1 Hacker Way last year and it was ridiculous. You could smell indian food from miles away from either direction.

    So Zuck likes Indian food?

I like Indian food too. A nice Vindaloo or some Pav Bhaji with tasty, tasty naan can really hit the spot.

Or wasn't that what you meant? Please do elucidate.

          I'm simply reporting facts.

Fact 1. I drove by 1 Hacker Way twice last year from opposite directions.
Fact 2. Both times I could smell Indian food from miles away.

People can form their own theories and opinions from these notable facts.

Who could come up with a lie like that?

                Apparently, you.

Some folks actually know that area.

Unless you were on the way to FB (you're an uber driver perhaps? Or maybe part of the cleaning staff?), you didn't get within 500 yards of the place. Because there isn't much there except the FB campus. If you weren't going to FB, I'm not sure how you could smell anything from University Avenue or the 101.

If your claim (that you drove by) was actually true, you'd know that. So that leaves it at you making an oblique, negative reference to the ethnicity of the folks who work there.

What's more, there aren't any Indian restaurants within *miles* of FB HQ. Some half-decent Taquerias though. But I guess it's not as much fun to make bigoted remarks about Mexicans when talking about tech companies, huh?

You're busted. But that's a good thing. Now you don't have to hide your bigotry any more. That will be a relief, won't it?

    Yes. That!

Why complain about Facebook tracking you after you delete your account, when others of us get tracked without ever having even created an account?

You could smell indian food from miles away from either direction.

So would this not happen if, somehow, we could get Facebook to stop tracking us? What are you saying? Trump promised, PROMISED during his campaign, that if Hillary won, we would get a taco truck on every street corner. I want my taco trucks! Is Trump's occupancy of the office the reason you smell the indian food instead of taco trucks?

he's saying that trump promised, promised, to ex-IT workers that had been replaced by the Indian outsourcing firm HCL, that he'd do something to keep jobs in America. He had some ex-Disney IT worker get on stage with him at a campaign rally.

there are more Indians from overseas on temporary visas learning the jobs they will do when they go back home to train others. HCL even replaced my job. at first there was fear among the outsourcers, then they learned that giving cash donations smooths over a lot. look at hcl americas lobbying groups. they'd never been so busy; wipro and tata all got in on it too. it costs money to make money, but not very much.

i had hope for trump. now i know he is only worried about certain shades of brown and hiding his own illgotten gains
