If using the law to corral antivaxxers doesn’t work at first, try, try again. At least, that seems to be the lesson learned by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. On Tuesday, he declared a state of emergency and mandated residents of the Williamsburg neighborhood, where an outbreak of measles has been raging since last fall, get vaccinated for the viral disease. Those who choose not to will risk the penalty of a $1,000 fine.

It looks like natural selection is on its way for the hipsters and/or Hasidim who populate Williamsburg. It must be the hipsters who are responsible for anti-vax sentiment in that neighborhood, though, because nobody is screaming that the city's decision is anti-Semitic, which they would instantly do if the Hasidim were the ones being forcibly vaccinated.
Makes one wonder if this will not drive another schism into an already fractured Left.

If society truly does segregate into vaccinated and unvaccinated camps, you know what will happen?
1) the vaccinated camps will become genetically inferior with respect to natural immunity to those diseases, and probably new diseases in the future as well.
2) the vaccinated camps will begin to show more clearly what are, and are not, side effects of the vaccinations - that could be interesting.
3) the death rate in the unvaccinated camps will tick up, by some infinitesimal amount that doesn't really make a bit of difference to the ongoing population numbers.
4) the unvaccinated camps will save the cost, pain and aggravation of vaccination and arguments about it - the cost pain and aggravation dealing with the diseases will no doubt outweigh that benefit, but, returning to point 1) when the new pandemic comes they will be genetically more capable of dealing with it.
5) after society collapses, the unvaccinated camps will have a head start on adapting to a future without plastic baggies, fossil fuels, and widely available high tech medicine.
